Discussion Thread For 3-D Artists/Fans
So I've downloaded DAZ and I've been steadilly accumilating a small liberary, mostly free items throughout the week.
It's incredible the stuff that can be done. Morphs, poses, scenes, etc. The sheer copacity for creativity boggles the mind. It's also a godsend for me, because my scanner's broken and I suck at drawing on a computer, just doesan't feel right. Here, with the appropiate tech and a few basic figures to start along with the right Morphs, props, and so on one can create a whole series of characters, scenes, hell a whole comic if one put one's mind to it. The potential of base charicters like Veronica alone is incredible. Before my program crashed I'd just finished experimenting with a some of the head and body morphs and wow. Unbelievable. I'm thinking of using this to create illustrations, sequences, possibly a whole series once I get my footing. Don't look for that anytime soon by the way, I'm just getting up and running. Working with the tech makes you appreciate what the community 3-d artists do on this site and on otheres as well. I look at your work with a new appreciation. You are in insperation to me as a bumble my way through the basics. Well, feel free to exchange thoughts, ideas, and of course tips are always welcome. Artwork might find a nice home here as well or at least alerts on when your posting a new sequence in another part of the forum. Kay, I'll look to update myself when I get a render worthy of putting up. ^^ |

Hi Jen, I have been using Poser Pro Pack (an upgradged version of Poser 4) since 2002. So I have also gotten alot of stuff over the years (about 5GB worth last time I checked) Which sites have you tried to get free stuff I may be able to point you to other freebies for you to use.

Well good for you...!!! I use Poser 6.0 / vue/photoshop for alot of my stuff as I have said before.. Daz studio is free and brought to you by the fine folks who brought you Victoria 3.0. Mike 3.0 ect.. It may well excede poser in the future but for now Im sticking with Poser.. I have a truely obscene amout of poser content.. I suggest you check out the free area at Renderocity.com..they have alot of free poser content.to a lesser extent free DS content.

Yep, and if anyone is intrested not only is DAZ studio a free program, but it's compadible with most poser material up to poser 4 and some poser 5 programs (although alot of the textures won't work).
In addition (forgive the advertizment sounding thingy here) right now three of the base character packs are free to download right now at daz3d.com. Which is a nice place to start. Veronica 3, Michael 3, and Akiko 3 are all basic figure packs that when combined with othere features like head and body morphs, clothing, props, poses, etc allow you to make a whole range of characters. So basicly if you're just starting out like I am and don't have alot of money to invest right off you can get the studio program, and three base characters to play with. In addition to that they've got a free section that gives you some fun stuff to start with in terms of some basic outfits, props, clothing, textures, etc. Renderousity is also a incredible resource for free stuff and gives you a ton of links to home sites for other free stuff. So basicly, for people like me who are just getting there feet wet, those two sites alone provide enough rescources to keep you happy and get an idea of just what the program can do. As far as sites are concerned, I've checked out a bunch of the sites that posted threads for freebees on DAZ and of course Renderousity's downloads sends you to alot of home pages for different people, which can lead to more resources of course. Those are the two main sites I look at at the moment. There are alot of sub sites I've been to as a result, too many to remember right off but believe me DAZ and Renderousity alone give me plenty of starting material. One thing I'd recommend for fellow newbies to the 3d world is not to get to caught up in downloading everything that says: FREE! on it. Take a look at the requirements, if you download read the READ MEs and make sure it's something that's going to be compatible with your programs, and that you'll be able to use for what you plan. Things can get cluttered up real quickly, but not to worry you can ferrett out the content you want to dump, just more time consuming then figuring out right off, "okay this won't work for me". For anyone that's ever looked at some of the incredible art done here and on othere sites in 3d and thought "how the heck did they make that" ? This is a good place to start if you're intrested. Really with all the cheap or free starting material, the main limits are your creativity. And not to sound too much like a add again, but also if you're looking for an investment that will seriously expand things for you I'd recommend the combined Vernonica and Michael head and body morphs pack also at DAZ for about thirty-four bucks if I recall right (it's on sale or was when I picked it up). This gives you all of the morphs for Veronica 3 and Michael 3, but more important, it means that you can also download othere morph material that gives you a great liberary of characters to start. Intresting how it relates to the Process in terms of material. Basicly you can do BE, AR, AP, TG, GTS, Fat, whatever with your base characters with this program. Oh, and also some TR, Transformations to stuff like Aliens and some furry types. So if you're intrested in the whole Process format as it relates to the 3d world, you'll love this. Blah, sorry got carried away but it's all so exciting for me. |

Not sure why it wouldn't let you select an item or figure. Best advice I can give is to reinstall it perhaps?
Having a few bugs myself, mostly with textures. Hair for some reason always shows up white, and I have to go into the surfaces and set the color manually. Same basic problem with some of the figure parts like M3's genitals when I apply a texture, and some of the cat suits, but I'm learning how to work around it. Not as easy as point and click but better then nothing. I was working with a dropship yesterday and had to go in and install all the textures manually, but the end result was well worth it. It looked incredible. Going to play some more if I have time and hopefully get the hair and body stuff figured out. Neat thing about this is, I learn something new everyday. Any links to free content of course are always a bonus, I'm contantly looking to expand although I'm a bit backed up at the moment figureing out which stuff I have will work with my program and which I need to dump or modify to make it work. |

Thanks for the tip. I checked out Renderotica and they do have some cool freebees. I downloaded a couple of texture packs and I think some of the poses will come in handy at some point if I make something that requires intimacy on the part of the characters.
They also had some intresting links to different sites. Some are just artwork, but a couple I found had some nice additional downloads to help me build my small liberary. Mostly right now I'm trying to find a spacesuit done a long time ago by Joerg Weber to match some free space helmets I found on Renderousity. Problem is the helmets and textures were done a long time ago, so I can't find the full suit in the store section so far. I did find the Shard suit textures which look incredible on DAZ and I suppose they'd make a decent match since the helmet textures were done by the same person. Problem is the helmets were done for Veronica and Michael and the modern suits are for V3 and M3. I'd like to find the orginal suit for use with Veronica 3 to Veronica 2 and Mike 3 to Mike 2. I think they're worth hunting for and I'm picking up some great stuff along the way. Also trying to find personal armor/uniforms from the Aliens movies since I picked up some great props to go with them. Only downside is that my video card sucks so that's why I get transperancys for hair and so on. I can correct manually but it's a bear and means I have to make my own colors. Ah well, there are a few tutorials that gave me some ideas. Anyways, hope to have a few renders to put up at some point. I've got a few on the bubble of being minimaly acceptable. ^^ |

Well currently working on a space ship type "bridge" or flight deck type set. It seems that there are alot of good sci-fi style freebees out there. I'm having alot of fun working with the contruction peices to build a whole set from scratch. I've got the roof and light fixtures on now which were the last major peices and finished with the fourth wall.
Now it's some little peices. I've already got the main concils up and so on, basic layout of the interior just needs some details. I've also created a baseline character for V3 once again with a sci-fi feel working with different armor pieces and textures. If the results work out as I hope I should have some stuff for display. By the way, does anybody happen to know where I might find a good set of metal railing type props? They'd add to the peice I'm on right now. Any freebees you've come across and can point me towards would help. Of course additional sites for sci-fi stuff like monitors and such woulden't hurt. Anyways, back to the grind. ^^ |
