Another TF-themed film in the works: Growth

Well, time will tell how much TF is actually in this, but from the poster and synopsis, it appears to have *something* (hopefully more than just a "Species" reverb).

Quote:
In 1989, on a quiet vacation island off the coast of picturesque New England, a groundbreaking experiment is underway. Scientists, working with the island population, have successfully unlocked the gateway to advancing human evolution. Using a parasite, they have been able to amplify the vision, hearing, speed, strength and intellect of the human subject, promising to usher in a new age for mankind?

In 1989, a breakthrough in advanced parasitic research on Cuttyhunk Island, gave scientists a jump in human evolution. Initial tests proved promising as subjects were experiencing heightened physical and mental strength and awareness. But, something in the experiment went horribly wrong and the island mysteriously lost three quarters of its population.

Jamie Akerman (Mircea Monroe, Tekken) fled the outbreak, which took her mother's life, twenty years ago. She now returns with her boyfriend (Brian Krause, Charmed) step brother (Chris Shand, Bumper) and best friend (Nora Kirkpatrick, Crashing), to sell the family property. There, they uncover the key to Jamie?s disturbing past, and the horrifying secrets long suppressed by the town leader, Larkin (Richard Riehle, Hatchet).

Now, a new strain of parasite has emerged, and threatens the island once again. Jamie struggles to survive and escape the obsessive pursuit of the local islanders who suspect that she has inherited more than she could ever have imagined....

Never trust a cover. Covers always always always lie to you.

Based on the trailer this is going to be more like a Night of the Creeps style monster.

I'm getting not so good Night of the Creeps and Slither style rip-off from this unfortunately.

If there is a TF on this movie, it will probably be of the skin bursting gory kind.
I'm rather sceptic of this flick, but i'm probably going to rent it anyway when it hits the shelfs.
Damn TF addiction !

After watching the trailer (don't know how I missed the link), I may have to agree with you. On the other hand, it still looks fairly well-made, at least a few recognizable actors....and Slither was a damn funny movie - (thanks in no small part to Nathan Fillion).

From the trailer, I got a very "The Faculty" vibe.

Boils down to what we were doing in 1989.They can't create a allegory of the
Cold War,since that was over by 1989.Hence no Pod People, radioactive mutant boyfriends, etc

Main thing I remember was all those Gilligans Island movies, and Bob Denver signing photos of himself as Gilligan at the Toronto Boat Show in 1989.
