Something that is not often factored in to BE

Sorry, that last statement ticks me off.

Almost everyone is a victim of abusive language, behaviour, bigotry or just generally bullying at some point in their life. How you choose do deal with it is your own choice.

I'm a white, heterosexual Scottish male in his late 20's. The rest of my family married into english families and live down south. I go down there and I get abuse because our money looks slightly different, I 'talk funny' because my accent isn't english. It's racism pure and simple.

I've met 70 year old women who carry scars from being bullied in school. African-Americans who complained that as a 'whitey' I had it easy until I pointed out that my entire nation was subject to several attempts to breed us/wipe us/force us out by our next door neighbours. I work with children whose parents have given - not been forced to give, mind - them up into care. That fucks them up, probably for the rest of their life.

Compared to that, getting all high & mighty because someone uses a word in common circulation to describe you that you find offensive seems a little weak.

Realistically, I get called a wanky ginger jock bastard almost every day, because I'm scottish and have a ginger beard lol. So the fuck what? Does that mean I run up to them and go "That is OUR word!" NO! Of course not! I just call them a bunch of sassanach engercunts and get on with my day.

So, my point is this:

DO NOT EVER PRESUME THAT SOMEONE ELSE IS UNAWARE OF WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A VICTIM OF PREJUDICE, INTOLERANCE, HATRED OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU FEEL SOMEHOW MAKES YOU SPECIAL.

To do otherwise is just to be a narrow-minded self-centred arrogant asshole who presumes that because they feel that they are in some way different to other folk that they are automatically persecuted. Most folk I know couldn't give a rats ass what you do in your free time, as long as you do what you're paid to do when you're meant to lol.
