Give honest critique on Deviantart ...

Get banned by artist from commenting because they are petty about their work that you didn't even say was bad. That it was just not their best.

Nah, just banned from seeing the artist, they blocked me. I get the "you can't post here" message ... and yeah, pretty thin skinned.

Don't be an artist if you can't take "Hey, this isn't your best." Because you will get worse, if you want someone to kiss your ass, get off the internet.

Re: Give honest critique on Deviantart ...

It was SapphireFoxx, that TG artist ... I actually like his work a lot. One of his pieces just wasn't his best work (I believe it was the latest version of Stealing from Sis), but I can not confirm as there is no negative criticism on any of his latest stuff I can see (and TG art without negative comments doesn't happen with sites like Deviantart, he definitely censors).

Serious "Not your best" = "I have come to expect better from you". It is like a straight A student getting a B. Is that a bad grade? By no means a bad grade, it is just not what I came to expect from the artist.

A good artist who is confident in his work has only two acceptable responses "Oh well, can't please everyone and maybe I should try harder" to "Care to explain what was off for you so I can know if it was you or me?" ... anything else is just childish.

well, I've been there twice. Each time I've been hit with viruses and malware so damn bad my computer was in the shop for almost a week, so yeah, really not sold on the concept.

Pretty sure that's less "oh look, a pretty picOHGOD" and more "yo-ho-ho, thar be booty on the other end of this banner ad"

"Hey, this isn't your best." <-- Not a critique. At all. A real critique analyzes what you think is wrong and gives the artist an idea of what they can do to improve the work.

Also, unless the artist specifically asked for comments and critique, if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Actually, it is. It isn't a detailed. It is a comparison to their other work. And maybe they know that they may have rushed it or something.

And it wasn't mean and you statement "If you don't have something nice to say say nothing at all" is stupid and childlike logic. What I said wasn't rude or mean. He could have easily asked for what was bad about it to get more detail. The statement you are implying is what I stated was rude or mean, it was not therefor it doesn't apply to the childish logic you wish to use.

And you don't post your art publicly if you aren't expecting comments or critiques, I am sorry but that is just ****ing stupid. "Here look at my art but don't say anything about it!" Seriously, if I wrote something and it was made public by me, I open myself up to criticism ... you can't have it both ways.

Don't apply childish logic to the real world, it doesn't work.

"Not your best" is just criticism. It's not constructive. If someone doesn't want to hear it in their private little corner of the internet, that's fine. Most people with DeviantArt accounts don't create them with the intent of pursuing constructive feedback. They create them to share. If they don't want unhelpful feedback in that setting, banning people who give it is reasonable.

He bans all criticism, constructive on not. **every comment is basically "WOW THIS IS SO GOOD!" and the only "negative" are minor like "That joint looks a little weird."

Again, no it is not. Banning someone who says something you don't like is childish, not the sign of maturity. It actually shows that you know your work isn't that good and don't want people to believe there are problems with it. Let them say it, if you believe it is wrong it doesn't matter and shouldn't bother you. An adult response is to ask for clarification, not take it as an insult and ban the person.

And btw, critique and criticism are basically same thing. It is just criticism is used to push away critiques you don't like. Critiques are not required to be constructive or not. You are playing semantics.

Definition #2 a criticism!

Don't correct someone when you do so incorrectly.
