Regardless of how liability, erc is dealt with, let's concentrate on figuring out what we want first.

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
How about we take a look at all the TF authors out there, and come to a consensus on which one is best suited for writing a story/script for this? Then we outline all the elements that we feel should be included (muzzle growth, multiple breasts, tail growth, fur, etc). This will cause some arguing back and forth, but that can't be avoided in these situations, as everyone has their own particular kinks (I personally don't give two shits about tail growth, but I understand that many on this board have a hard-on for it, so whatever). We could find someone who has a web host, or just start a blogger for the project where people can come and put their input. Maybe just have a list of transformation elements that people can check off, then compile the results after a certain amount of time. Give that info the author we decide on, and let them crank out a story. Once we have that, then hopefully we get feedback from the people who have connections with regards to how feasible those elements would be to pull off, and a ball budget for putting it together.
Plan 1.5: Instead of deciding on an author, and what elements to include, simply go though places like deviantart, FurAffinity, and CYOC to find a TF story that is already written, and just try to put it in video form There's my two cents. |

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
My line of thought was to simply recreate American Werewolf in London's transformation scene with a female. Now of course we can add more details to it than they did in the original film, showing extra nipples, a tail, more fur growth, the claws growing in (which they showed a little of during the movie theater transformation) and other little things here or there. My reasoning is basically that if we say recreate that scene, then everybody involved immediately knows what they're up against from acting, to props, to lighting and sound effects. We know exactly what the goal is and we have visual reference to what we want as opposed to trying to take a script and visualize a whole new storyline to go with the transformation.
Also, we shouldn't be trying to do a 20 minute short film, this should be the bare bones, straight to the point scene. This should be a 3 or 4 minute transformation of a hot woman into a giant four legged monster that blows us away. We don't need two or three people or some complex storyline to go with it. I could be in the minority, but if not, I can assume that most people are into Werewolf Transformation for the transformation itself. I think focusing on just that for now could lower the costs and be a starting point for doing further community funded projects that could evolve into bigger and better things. The last thing we want to do is try to add so much to such a simple idea that it loses focus, funding and support. We can't please everybody with one short transformation, that is human nature. Perhaps when the numbers come in, a short American Werewolf in London type transformation would run us $10,000. We throw in our cash, it gets made, it becomes a hit and then we ramp it up with a sequel of sorts that costs $40,000 and really blows everybody away and so on. I say we start small with well established ideas that most people already approve of, and then if that works, we start to branch out and push things. That's what I would think is best for all of us, but that's my opinion.

You do make a good point about having the AWIL scene be something people can refer back to when trying to flesh out just what we're shooting for acting wise. The scene already has a good number of juicy tf elements, so there wouldn't be much to add into that. |

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
I would be more than willing to write such a scene. I've been sorta spinning my wheels since some of my stuff was deleted off of deviantART, and wouldn't mind a project for the community again.
Of course that assumes I would be a suitable candidate by consensus of the Process.

An emphatic yes to Cursebearer, you're very good at detail in your stories.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like Cursebearer's The Librarian brought to life, even if only the transformation itself.

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
A few things from my brief look through this thread:
1) As mentioned back on the first page, this project should be helmed by someone with experience in a visual field. With that in mind I'd say every fiction writer, including Cursebearer, would be a poor choice. You can say it'll be an adaptation, but the adaptation isn't really a creation of whoever wrote the original piece; it's based on the knowledge and experience of the adaptor. My second objection to this might be more along the lines of personal taste, but if this project does have any dialogue I think the general TF community would be a poor choice to write it. Too much dialogue in TF stories reads like porn writing; it looks odd on paper, and I can only imagine it will sound odder in person. 2) I've yet to see anyone do an actual cost analysis of this. People throw out dollar amounts, but no one has offered reference points for what this kind of shoot would actually cost. For a comparison AWiL cost $10m to make, and it's 97 minutes long. The transformation scene is just shy of 3 minutes long. I don't know if the film's marketing factors into that $10m factor, but even if it does that transformation shot probably cost at least $200k. I don't know if prosthetics are cheaper now than they were in the 80s, but I don't see why they would be. There needs to be an itemized list of costs including:
And some additional money for going over budget (because it is going to go over budget) 3) porn vs non-porn. There are people, some who have already spoken in this thread, who will only pay for this if it is pornographic. There are others, myself among them, who will only pay for it if it is not. There's probably no reason to bring distribution into this issue, as a distributable product, porn or otherwise, would probably be something very different. There needs to be a consensus among the investors as to what the erotic content of the shoot is going to be.

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
I still think we should aim for ballpark figures for effects to create individual parts of the overall process and set the cost of each goal as a stretch goal. The community would still be required to decide the priority of those stretch goals, but I would think the most logical way to prioritise them is to do it by the parts that would be lowest cost and easiest to pull off first, with the harder and more expensive effects later.
Of course you could say at the bare minimum you want to see a basic tail growth, claws and fangs, in which case you set the minimum at the cost for achieving those (because there's no point taking everyone's money if all you manage to raise is enough to show someone growing claws and not enough for any other effects) You can always get two figures for each effect too. By setting the lower stretch targets for budget effects, you can set the next set of stretch targets to go towards doing the earlier targets using higher quality props, etc. I don't think there's any specific need to set the kick starter project goal to the final sum of the entire project if the majority of contributors would be stoked to see a good portion of the effects included, even if the full goal isn't reached. |

Re: SheWolf crowd funded project
We have to keep in mind that there are still many unknowns out there. The reason more concrete numbers haven't come out is because, frankly, we don't know where to begin with figuring costs. There have been people earlier in this thread who have reached out to feel out what costs might be, but we're still waiting on results.
Secondly, when it comes to adapting something, there's nothing to say you can't have multiple people working hand in hand on the project. I don't want somebody making some half ass, disjointed video just because they were good at visual effects, but couldn't piece together a coherent sequence to save their life. This is a collaborative project, not "let's pay one guy to sit in his basement for six months, and see what comes out". Our author(s) can have open lines of communication with the people actually responsible for the visual aspect to make sure that the sequence translates from words to video. In turn the visual guys can point out things that are harder to implement, or just plain won't work well. With regards to the porn question, it is a tough one. Hell, pretty much anything about this that comes down to personal preferences will be a difficult road to navigate. I think a bit of compromise needs to be exercised here; honestly, there's no need for it to be some over the top smut piece. It detracts from the actual transformation. At the same time, I would hope that no one involved will be afraid of dealing with some skin. At the end of the day, I would think that a significant, if not majority, of people to whom we'll be marketing this to are interested in female transformation as a fetish first. It is what it is. Right now, I'm just trying to push along dialogue in the areas we can control right now. Like I said earlier, we won't know anything definitive on costs for now, but what we can start doing is putting together what we want to see. In turn, we can take that to the people who would know costs, and they can tell us from there. I still say we start discussing an outline for what elements to include in the scene, and from there, a story can be built around that. |
