Movie Talk: The Wolverine (Spoilers)

So, yeah... It was just okay, in my opinion. It's neither terrible nor great; but If I had to choose, I'd watch this again over the first Wolverine movie.

That said, I get the sense that the filmmakers were trying to make up some kind of mystery and intrigue mixed in with the drama and action to string the titular character along; but it just doesn't work. And to call the identity of the man in the silly Silver Samurai suit a plot twist would be a disservice. Which, by the way, I could not take seriously. It was just a big, fuck-off robot, because, I guess we needed to see Wolverine fight a robot that isn't a Sentinel. I'm not even a fan of X-Men in general, and I was let down by this.

The only thing I liked from this was the one fight scene between Logan and Shengin, Mariko's father, and how it was shot. With the heavy shadows, it was like watching an 80's era Frank Miller drawing come to life. Aside from that, most of the other action sequences were kind of boring. I would have thought that one with the train would have been exciting, and yet I didn't really care. Even with Wolverine's gimped healing factor making him appear more at risk of being killed, and I still did not care. I liked how whenever anyone punched him would break their hands against his adamantium bones; that was at least amusing. And I wish the fight with ninjas lasted longer and had a bigger part. But no; we need to see Wolverine fight a robot.

Oh yeah, and the thing that hindered Wolverine's healing factor was a tiny robot attached to his heart. Which makes sense...? I don't even think they went into detail about it; or I just wasn't paying attention.
