The "silly and nonsensical reasons" were just a tongue-in-cheek poke at those readers that accused him of it in the strip's comments, as well as a lead-in to the TG transformation.

I didn't even know he had a DeviantArt, so I did miss that comment. Thank you for informing me that at least that part wasn't as dumb as it looked on the surface.

Here's the thing, though. In the comments on that same comic, he did expressly state the thing about how he wants to be a LEGITIMATE WRITER now and so he has to BURN ALL THE SMUT AND BURY THE ASHES (not in so many words, mind). And I think that's just as stupid as if the "demeaning to women" bit had been serious. You can be a legitimate writer and have done smut before. And if you're that concerned about it getting found out, that's what pen names are for. It ain't like my real name is Cezar Nix, ya know...

But again, I can respect his right to make a decision. It doesn't actually matter whether I think his stated reason(s) for doing so are stupid, because it isn't my decision to make. If, when my son is an adult, he wants to get a tattoo of Wallace Shawn's face across his entire torso, I won't think it's a very smart decision, but I won't presume to force him not to either.

Sorry if you guys think I'm being too harsh, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em. "Real writers shouldn't ever have done any smut" seems ridiculous to me (not to mention a little insulting, given what I do). And it doesn't read remotely like a joke - it seems like he's being serious.
