Yeah, never let Michael Bay write a movie...EVER...or you end up with Devistator Balls....

That writers strike was the major blow to that movie.

BTW: THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE.....Highlander Movie......the rest DON'T EXIST! YOU HEAR ME?!!!!

Does the anime count? That was somehow well done unlike every Marvel anime so far.

Karfield, I think we may have finally found something we agree on.

Re: I hate Micheal Bay films

The latest Transformers movie failed not only as a movie in almost every possible way, but it also failed to even be a popcorn movie, or to achieve the status of "so bad it's good". The first one was tolerable, the second one needs a public apology (which we actually got, though he should have put a bit more feeling into it), and the third movie was just... bad. Not as bad as the second, but I don't think you could set the bar lower than Transformers 2.

I would rather watch the Quickening than Transformers 3.
Hell, I would rather watch Highlander: the Source than Transformers 3.

Re: I hate Micheal Bay films

As a long time Transformers fan I enjoyed Transformers 3 quite a bit. They kept the action sequences up and interesting, got a bit more characterization of both Bots and Cons in this one, and even my wife wants to go see it again and she barely tolerates going out to the movies.

Plus the movie is breaking $500 million worldwide in under 7 days.

I'd say he's doing something right...

Twilight was doing something right in that regard, though since its already getting big money, I might as well see it too.

Here's the thing about the Transformers movies: I go to see them for the action. Tbh, I could care less if they had any kind of plot, because that's not what I'm there for. I mean, if the movie was designed as a "plot movie," it wouldn't have so much action in the advertising, you know? I mean, would you watch Inception because you wanted to see zombies and tanks and buildings getting blown up? No, you'd watch it because you want to f**k with your mind. /rant

Re: I hate Micheal Bay films

That's the thing about Transformers though: the action is boring.
The entire last hour of the film is one huge action scene populated by characters ranging form uninteresting to awfully annoying and all are totally impervious to any kind of harm, The only deaths shown being faceless civilians, the VTOL crafts and robots that had been given either two lines in the whole film or none at all.
None of the Transformers are given any development at all except maybe for Optimus (who, like the last film, is on screen less than John Turturro) and the human characters even less so.

The result was a confusing mess filled with gratuitous violence and unnecessary slow mo to the point where the action becomes monotonous, it blurs together into grey.

Transformers 3 fails to even be a popcorn movie, and I take its success to be less a sign of its quality but of the viewing audiences growing obsession for spectacle over quality.

Last time I checked:

Megatron, Starscream and Ironhide were major characters. Even if they didnt have many lines in THIS movie, they were big name characters from all 3 films AND from the original series.

(For those counting, this is the second time Starscream and Ironhide have died. Megatron never really died in the original movie, he was just copied and made into Galvatron....that was explained later in the series). On that note: Did anyone else notice that when Sentinel Prime shot Ironhide he rusted and dissolved? I think this is a throwback to when Galvatron killed Starscream in the old animated movie, as both characters are voiced by Leonard Nemoy.

My largest complaint about the movie is that they got Frank Welker to do the voices of Soundwave and Shockwave and neither sounded quite right. Shockwave didnt speak a lick of English (and still cant shoot for shit!), and Soundwaves voice modulation was way off.....Still at least they got Frank in for them (he was the original voice actor for those two AND megatron in the original series. However, Hugo Weaving is doing Megatron in these movies, and honestly I love how well he does it).

Maybe this is the problem, I grew up with Beasties and Beast Machines so the big piles of random mechanical parts and car fenders that are the Michael Bay Transformers aren't as beloved or familiar to me.
Though I would have assumed it would be even worse to be an actual fan of the original show and the animated movie, as watching your childhood be defecated upon is never fun.

And as a side note, it is not a good thing to not be able to understand a movie unless you've watched the show/book/original movie that it was based on, it's ok to call back to the source material for little inside jokes with the fans but I shouldn't have to watch every episode of the 80s cartoon just to understand what's happening, as you seem to imply.
