Re: Final Fantasy XIII

I got it yesterday for the PS3. Its not a bad game, and I can say that due to I haven't been able to put the control down. Having said that, I do have my cons. The maps are incredibly linear, and I definitely don't like the idea of no towns or any interaction. Still a fun game, just different.

And during the next boss battle, if you don't switch to the defense setup before it uses Crystal Rain, there's a good chance Lightning will die.

Oh, and a sphere grid-esque leveling system for their different battle modes.
I hope that stuff can change my opinion of the game, because at the point I'm at it's so easy it's basically playing itself.

And FYI I'm getting FFXIII for the PS3, Obviously.

I have a PS3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, Gamecube, N64, DS, and PC. Need to get a PS2, lots of games I missed out on there.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Aye, but the idea of no towns was brought up in an interview which explains that having these L'cie in towns would cause widespread panic due to the Cocoon citizens stigma against everything Pulse. It wouldn't make sense to have them casually buying and trading goods in towns that absolutely fear them. The choice to make the main character's outcast is what drove the reasoning behind the Network Shops idea.

The linear design of most maps actually works against the player, as to leads to a lull in awareness, making it easy to pass up Treasure. On complicated maps, PLayers are naturally looking everywhere to figure where to go next. On simpler maps, people tend to space out and jsut blaze forward.

@TF-Viewer: Yeah it gets much more involved. I've actually had to retry battles a few times after neglecting to make use of different Paradigms. Once you hit Vile Peaks, you really NEED to start playing strategically.

PS2, PS1, PS3, 360, GC, Wii, Xbox, PC, GBA, DS, PSP, GBAsp, N64, SNES...
...
...
AND A FUCKIN' GAMEGEAR!

Anyway, ever since FF6 i've lost faith in the FF series..

FF6 was the pinnacle, 7 was good, then it was all downhill.

A Gamegear.. good lord.

Heh, with the Sega Genesis Collection on the PSP, I can pretend my PSP is a Gamegear sometimes.

I could add to the collection by saying I have that GBA adapter for the GC. Playing GBA games on the TV through the Gamecube is kinda weird though.

My PsP also serves as a:

Snes, PC (for older games like Doom anyway), GBA, GB, PS1, Genesis, NES.

Emulation ftw! (but i actually own all those consoles outright...except a Genesis...)

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

I'd say it's a safe bet that I'm the only person on the forums with a Virtual Boy. One of the screens is cracked, but it was only $10.

Can you play Ninja Spirit on a gamegear? I think not.

Wow, I tried one of those once when they first came out. It was a demo model at KB Toys, it gave me such a headache after just a few minutes.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Okay, finally got to the point where you can use the Paradigms and stuff. Also died twice... but that retry option really is a nagging reminder that this is far from a traditionally FF game.
