I've gotten many requests for commissions, but every time I try to work out prices, I ALWAYS get the same response, "That's a lot of money"... But I base it off what I've seen of others.

What's a reasonable price for commissions? For stuff like sketch, ink, color, color w/ background, and extra for other characters.

Starting prices?
Well pinups, I see 10/15 for sketches, 25-35 for color, and 35+ for complex commissions.
For sequences, its safe to do multiples of 20 dollars depending on complexity.
For extra characters, make it depend on the complexity as well. Sketches add 5-15 dollars, color adds 15-30, and past that, you have to figure it out.
Basically 20-60 should be your average range. Past 60, you're either doing multiple pages or a mastery class pinup.

EDIT: Though if you want to go low for inexperience, do a first customer sale. Like 8 dollar sketches and 15 for color.

My father once told me the best way to price something is to look at what you've created, ask yourself why you would want it if you were buying, then charge the minimum you'd pay for it plus however much you could make at another job in the time it took to do it. I however, nearly never pay for porn, so my opinion may be invalid. :l

I'd start at 5 for a quick sketch, but otherwise marmalade sounds mostly correct.

and user ~AetherReal proceeded to rip me a new one, saying how "it's not art, go post it on a softcore porn site" (to which I gotta say, if I saw a pic like that on a porn site, I'd leave in search of something better. this isn't even nearly as bad as the new one I just put up!)
I will admit, the picture was taken at night with a poor cellphone camera. It's not the greatest picture on DA.


What do you guys think? Not only of the picture, but what that user had to say, too?

first i gotta say it's a nice photo and so what if it isn't art it's your account you have the right to choice what to put up and what not to put up and also in my option everyone have their own point of view of what art is

It did seem a bit facebook-y, to be honest, not something you did to be art but just something to show people you did it. The guy was rude and a tool, no question there, but if it's not actually meant to be part of your gallery I do have to question the reason for posting it.

Also keep in mind that there are quite a few narrow minded people on DA that think almost any depiction of breasts whatsoever are "Not art, but porn.".

Also, it's the internet. You're going to run into people that want to be "cool" and "edgy" by being dicks. Just ignore them, and try not to take it personal. Trolls like that eventually disappear. (Only they're replaced with new ones, so it doesn't really matter, lol.)

True, but that doesn't necessarily make all porn art. There is aline between artistic expression and just flashing people. Would you call Goatse art? XP
