Wow, Skiff... awesome, just awesome. This is really great.

I think it might be nice if you framed this with a bit more of a prologue... but yes, this is easily some of the best stuff I've seen at this board. You've got real talent.

You know, Skiff, I've been in this little community for quite some time- just as one earmarker, I was a regular visitor on the Process site since before the rollovers- back when the site address still ended in /~tdaniels/. I've seen a lot of great artists come and go (more of the latter than the former, sadly) and I've honestly gotta say you're one of the most promising artists I've seen in quite some time. Your art isn't quite there yet, but you're improving and willing to take criticisims and apply them to your work, which is a big plus. Also, you've got a solid base already from the looks of it, and at least half a brain to boot, which is more of a rarity in the sea of "omg i liek the boobz lolz" that I'd like to admit.

Patience, Persistence, and Practice are really all you need. You think a month for an 11-page comic is bad? I scoff at any notion of that being "slow". I've waited patiently for the better part of a year to see the conclusion of sequences shorter than that. Unlike many, I haven't forgotten that some of us still have lives outside our little interests, and I appreciate you doing this on your free time, for free, and sharing with us.

What I'm most interested in seeing is the cleaned-up version of part one. You've shown you've got a modicum of talent in doing comic layouts and dialogue, now the next step is going all-out on the artwork and really shoing us what you can do. I for one can't wait- You're the first process artist whose career I've been so keenly interested in since Litch over at the BE Archive.

Keep up the good work, don't get discouraged by the gimmies, and keep drawing what you like. You've got some real potential and I can't wait to see where it goes.

SoylentOrange is quite right - 11 pages in a month? It can take some artists far more time to do that much.

The "cleaned up" panels you've done are of fantastic quality... I hope that you're going to do the text like that as well, for someone whose eyesight isn't 20/20 and who has a ridiculous (1920x1200 on a 15" laptop screen) resolution it's a bit hard to read the text (which is rather interesting)

Anyway, I look forward to seeing more.

Something else I was just noticing- I can't find whatever image you cropped for your coloring tuitorial with Katt in it. Was that made just for the tuitorial, or is it a page not yet in sequence, or just a piece of side art? If it's the last one, even if there's no process I'm sure it'd be okay to post it, since it's in the service of a process-related comic...

Wow… I didn’t expect a guy with the nick of “SoylentOrange” to hit me with a $10 vocabulary. But I guess anything goes here… Seriously though, Thanks a bunch man that meant a lot. (modicum reminds me of the Schnyders Meat commercial… hehehe… Moving on…)

Yah I wasn’t real specific when I was talking about the 3D program I use. It’s World Craft or “hammer” as it’s known now. It was the map editor that was released with the first Half-Life. I have mine configured to render maps for Half-Life Opposing Force. It works well. A little dated, but really easy to use.

I checked the creation date of the first 6 pages I scanned and it was Sept 25… I was off with my estimate of 4 weeks. I only started his comic 2 ½ weeks ago. Holy crap eh?...

The tutorial pic of katt I showed was of a single drawing I had done and colored a while back. It is cropped so the files wouldn’t be too big. I picked it randomly actually… It didn’t have anything to do with this particular comic, just some random cheese cake.

Anyway. I was busy tonight! Drew a cover page and cleaned up the first 5 pages. Also I typed all the text in the story in to MSword to use when I finish the pages. Before that, I finished pretty much all of the 3D set to use (previous day)… I can’t get the bugger to render with specific light sources. (I ran the render engine for 12 hours and it didn’t move an inch. Yet, a quarter of the area when selected will fully render in 7 min.) So I’ll just use the editor display which is the screen shot I took. (below). Then I slapped the text on to the 5 pages I finished and made previews to post. YAY!

....What's wrong with my name? I was just going for a different flavor of Soylent Green...

Anyways, the cleaned-up versions look great, but that huge chunk of text on page 5 kind of cuts the flow from page 4. I think if you swapped the text with the panels next to it, you wouldn't break flow so much. And the cover page looks really nice compositionally. Were you planning on coloring it?

And as for the tuitorial pic, well, there's always room for cheesecake...

Great stuff, Skiff.

I agree with Soylent Orange, you need to break-up that text a bit... it can be a bit off-putting to be going over a comic and then get hit by a mass of text. The text itself is good, it's a good plot device (the virus/mutagen) but you need to space it out a bit.

The front cover is great, I like the wings

The electronic font is a big improvement, easily readable now

I dunno, i like a lot of background information. It kind of leads to a more believeble, reasonable story.
