I thought there was something in there stating that they were allowed to monitor your connection to see if you're using the program for things you aren't supposed to be while the WoW client is running. However, the penalties are, of course, simply suspension of your account.

Really, on the whole, yeah. This ain't legal. There's no way the server software was built 'from scratch' without some obvious reverse-engineering. However, actually bothering to have one of these shut down would be much more pain than it's really worth, especially when they can't do anywhere near the full game wortha content. So it's illegal, but nobody really cares.

See: The umpty-billion private Ragnarok Online private servers that still exist.

Well, the server is opensource. So everyone can see that no things from the game are used. As far as I know, Blizzard made it really easy for them. The commands the client uses to connect are quite self-explaining. So, there wasn't much reverse-engeneering needed, just some Network-sniffing.

Darkhunter75: I sadly have lost most of my screenshots... besides, this is about process. And since I have new Hardware now, I should be able to record good Videos now as well, so if anyone has requests, just post them here

If you're an engineer try stacking "you feel bigger" with one of the soul splits. or all 3 if you can, tho it's damned hard. 4 hr cooldown on each teleport, and you could end up with "You feel smaller".

And can't you ask a nice shammy to cast heroism on you for a bit?
Youd be surprised how stingy they are with heroism...almost as stingy as paladins with heals...

I was never stingy... its just that some people had a real problem discovering that they've rolled a wimpy healer and not a righteous badass with a hammer like it was advertised. That's why I want to play the Warhammer Online beta.

Monitors RAM. Nice paragraph in BOLD SCREAMING ALL CAPS. I think it was the next clause after the one I quoted. Was funny. Aaanyway.

"Oh, so that's how they did it. Let me just create this method that will emulate the response to their command so that everyone plays nicely..."
I believe that's pretty much a text book case of reverse engineering.

Hey, I don't want to fght you about this. It may be illegal, but the server I'm using is not, it's even on sourceforge. Maybe how I'm using it is illegal throught. Anyway, I don't want to argue about that. You better should be happy that I've modified to code to allow that scaling, read throught the touturials to set it up and so on, and now offering to mae some nice Videos that contain the In-game-growing to contribute them to the communety. Besides, it's not really your problem, noone is forcing you to join ^^ (You could, however, if we talk about it a bit in a messenger)

I'm sorry, I'm just rather disdainful of the next generation and their entire "it's not illegal, it's on the internet!@212!" attitude. It's illegal in the same sense as copying CDs is illegal. IF the company concerned is looking for private servers and IF they decide you're worth their time, then you haven't got a snowball's chance in hell, come your court date. Those're two big 'if's, but it annoys the hell out of me when people try to deny it, not wanting to know they're doing something technically illegal.

And just to put it in perspective, I've actually configured and run three different software versions of RO servers for friends to use inside of their own house. I knew what I was doing was illegal, they knew it was, but the odds of getting caught were so miniscule that nobody cared for the two months it was up.

Weel, I'm also against this "It's-illegal-it's-the-net" Thingy. It's just that I use this server only for things not possible on the normal WoW, say, moderated Roleplay (Blizzard is unable to get this done, sadly), Growth & Shrink. And Since I still pay for the game, I'm not doing and harm to Blizzard (Wich seem to have the company-philosophy "acquisitiveness" anway...)

as an interesting side note, ended up fighting Lady Vashj yesterday... we failed miserably on phase 2, but what happens is a bunch of elementals spawn and move slowly towards her, when they touch her, her damage goes up by 5%, what I didnt notice was so does her size.

Wish I had a screenshot, but I didnt even notice till the whole raid was practically dead from adds, Vashj was HUGE, kind of reminded me of the naga from deviantart from artists like Karbo.

Although she probably has more in common visually with Medusa (Clash of the Titans if youve seen it).
