Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
Yeah, I take what I can get. The entire movie has a very dry humor feel and could have been a lot better (although most of the documentary clips interviewing him and the folks around him are pretty good) - a lot of potential if they had used some actual interesting kaiju designs (granted the ones they do use are "unique") - but there was so much room for improvement. And the end is just....out there...not unlike a few other experimental Japanese films I've seen.

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
If you see only one Japanese seafood-themed pro-wrestling movie this year, watch "Oh, My Zombie Mermaid." (If, however you want to see a second one, I strongly recommend "The Calamari Wrestler")
Actually, the Zombie isn't a mermaid and the mermaid isn't a zombie - although both are somewhat prominently featured. The English title is a little weird given that the Japanese title is pretty self-evident in itself - "Ah, House of Wrestling." That said, it's a very entertaining flick featuring a bunch of actual Japanese wrestlers - with better production values in general than you'd probably expect given some of the previous clips I've posted. However, it is very, very disappointing that the final form of the mermaid (which is shown gradually transforming(!) over the course of the movie) is only seen from a distance. I guess they didn't have the money for a nice close-up of a standard mermaid body after all the weird prosthetics they used for the nasty version ![]() Oh well - now that I've figured out how to use virtualdub properly you only have to d/l one clip instead of 6. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W8M25GXV |

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
Still not really sure why I didn't post this clip before now...I've seen it enough times.
Anyhoo, a little general weirdness from Hideaki Anno's (Neon Genesis Evangelion) live-action feature adaptation of "Cutie Honey". We've got some hair growth, some multiple limbs, even a little skinning, etc - and it's a little long at the end because I decided to leave in the clothing-change - such as it is. This film has a few other bits and pieces here and there and is pretty fun overall. Just d/l some episodes of the live-action tv show as well (subbed) so I'll have to see if there's anything good there too. BTW, you guys got lucky this time because apparently I ripped the dub track rather than the unsubbed Japanese. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QYB3TUIW |

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
I mentioned the new Takashi Miike adaptation of the Yatterman anime once before in this thread (never posted any pics though).
A few trailers here - http://twitchfilm.net/news/2009/02/c...-yatterman.php Really, if you've seen Hideaki Anno's live-action adaptation of "Cutie Honey" - you can imagine something kinda similar (CGI is a little tighter here)....but I'd say it's really a few notches higher on the weird scale. I guess part of what makes it really strange is that it's REALLY close to the original anime in terms of overall content and stylings from what I understand including really bizarre self-referential humor, weird adult jokes totally inappropriate for younger viewers (the anime was from the 70s), etc. A selection of reviews here (http://twitchfilm.net/reviews/2009/0...-yatterman.php) - see the bottom of the first review for more links. Of course, it's more than worth the $15 I paid to import the HK release (came out on 4/30) just for seeing the *smoking* Kyoko Fukada in a hot leather outfit for 95% of the entire movie (minus the scenes where she's either in a bath or a wedding gown ;p). Keeping in mind of course that Kyoko was also one of the two lead actresses in the brilliantly well made and truly funny gothic lolita meets biker girl comedy "Kamikaze Girls" - I can't recommend that one enough!!! No process in this flick ![]() |

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
Another one:
Gothic and Lolita Psycho Two trailers: http://twitchfilm.net/news/2010/05/t...-psycho-tr.php First one is the real one, second one is kinda a joke/spoof trailer. Looks interesting (probably no process), but this is coming from the director who did Onechanbara (the Zombie Cowgirl one...which didn't review so well) - although effects are by guys from TGP and Machine Girl, etc. Always nice to see more Gothic Lolita...like I said the only *mainstream* film I've seen so far is "Kamikaze Girls" - about to order the UK R2 2 disc set to accompany my HK version - but sadly, I don't think this is going to quite match that for overall quality. |

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
Finally got around to watching "Air Doll".
Wow. Really a touching and melancholy film - and very good all the way through. Only one real process scene - but it is a pretty cool one. Lots of great little scenes throughout the film showing the seams on her legs/arms/neck as well as the air valve in her belly button. Also some nice implications of transparency/thin skin, etc. Highly recommend this movie overall - moving with some great elements. ![]() http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BNUV7GKF |

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)
New trailer - this one for "The Big Tits Zombie" - apparently to be shown in 3d ;p
http://twitchfilm.net/news/2010/04/a...h-sora-aoi.php With a budget like that, it's probably not going to have much real process in it, but it looks like fun. And featuring Sora Aoi, and others... |
