Re: Stupid Creationist!

I love cocks and hate bananas. Probably worth pondering.

Re: Stupid Creationist!

If you haven't already missed it, watch this. Fascinating stuff.

If you've missed it, I'm sure PBS will be airing it again shortly. Lots of episodes of Nova are posted on PBS's website as well.

Re: Stupid Creationist!

Uh oh! The banana man has been caught copyrighting!

But he's offered an apology for a recent slip-up. Sort of. In a backhanded, snide kind of way. Maybe there will be another for his plagarism...?

Check out some of the bananaman's blog rules:

Quote:
Cuss words (mild or abbrev.), blasphemy, URL’s, incivility, or failure to give the name ‘God’ or ‘Jesus’ capitals, will be deleted.
Wow. It's his blog so everyone better subscribe to his supernatural beliefs during their visit.

Also, I like the way he misrepresents Einstein and Newton in his blog's header. Talk about taking things our of context.

Re: Stupid Creationist!

Consequently, nothing in the physical sciences contradicts creation stories. Just thought I'd say that since people, for some reason, love trying to answer religious questions with science and scientific questions with religion. Folly, folly, folly.

Re: Stupid Creationist!

If you're speaking about Young Earth creationism, the idea that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, there is a fair amount of evidence to contradict this. Dinosaur fossils, radiocarbon dating, plate tectonics, etc.

That being said, if we look at Genesis as an allegory - i.e., the first day is actually a billion years, the second several million...then things might get interesting. While I don't actually believe this, I've had discussions with my Christian family about the idea. What if human beings are discovering all these natural scientific processes, but all we're really doing is learning the rules that God set down? And what if God's ultimate goal is for humans to become creators themselves?

Try using THAT argument to explain to a fundamentalist why genetic engineering and stem cell research could be good things. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the outcome! (Hint: be ready to run.)
