it's the amount of fat girls (and guys) are getting. there is a marked difference in poor 3rd world nations and developed nations. more fat = more energy = earlier puberty.

One theory states that it may be due to residual chemicals left in Beef from what was used to bring Calves to maturity faster for more milk before the slaughter.

Treads a little too far down the AR path for me....25-16 was about perfect. 13...yikes.

As for the talk about the body changing at different rates, there's also a psycho-physical aspect some talk about....seeing sex earlier, they develop more....*pseudo psycho-babble here....

Actually then rural third world should be developing faster and other things would be different.

Fat content is a component of development, but in the United States it is not just overweight children who are developing early. USA uses hormones to help speed up growth of cattle etc, unlike poor third world farmers who can not afford to do that. They also use bovine growth hormone. There is some concen about this being left residiual in meat and milk. See click me.

Certain comercial pesticides mimic estrogens and there is concern of them comming in on fruits and vegitables, and being airborne. See above post.

So to conclude. If you don't want girls to mature as fast, Don't eat animal or plant byproducts. Not only will this prevent exposure to compounds in food it will prevent body fat which helps in production of estrogens!

I haven't heard anyone say this yet, but Natural-selection may have something to do with it. People who engage in sex sooner in very-developed countries end up ultimately having more offspring, I believe. Unlike in undeveloped nations where resources are very scarce, kids in America are subsidized by the govt if the parents can't support them.

From an evolutionary standpoint, those who have the most offspring during their lifetimes, which also surive to have offspring of their own, are the most fit and are selected for.

Ummmm actually it's the opposite. The UNDER developed countries have more kids earlier. They are sexually active as soon as possible (childhood marriage)
Their kids aren't as well prepared for, but they HAVE them whereas many in the West have few (if any) kids. They may have SEX but they don't produce kids (for example Japan which has a declining population)

Sex doesn't do anything for evolution. Only successful childbirth (and raising) does.
