Get the van, paint it black and grey, with a red stripe on it.

A-Team, fool!

There's never an 83 Vandura when you actually need it.
Probably because the G-series was so shitastic.

Re: Buying a car- your opinion?

Dodge isn't known for their long term quality, and 2007 is within the time where they suffered from the bailout and sale to Fiat. My experience with the 1996-2002 models was that while they have the best features, but the long term quality was very poor.

Chrysler in general has had poor ratings vs. GM, Ford, Toyota and Honda in initial and long term quality. As you get more recent the gap widens.

Of course, where you live makes a big difference. Up north the salt and winter eats cars while the pot holes slam them to death. If you or the vehicle are primarily in the south US it should last a lot longer. Just watch out for that bacteria that eats evap cases on the east coast.

I used to have a Ford...never...again. It lived up to it's name (Fix Or Repair Daily/Found On Road Dead), traded it in and got a Toyota Tacoma. Never regretted it a single day. I would take another Toyota over another Ford any day now.

And here I expected you'd recommend I buy a train.

I do live in sunny South Carolina, so I doubt salt and ice will be TOO much of a problem. Hopefully.

See, now, I had a Ford and it ran fine for several years, its only problem being a broken AC hose. I also had a Suzuki, which was *starting* to fall apart when I traded it in, then the Kia that recently hit a deer and died of her injuries a few days later. I've had good luck with cars so far.

There's something to be said for JDM, there really is.
I'm running Toyota now, but my Nissan literally saved my life - Sentra XE versus drunk asshole in a Silverado. I got off better than he did.

In mine (which was a Taurus, btw) the coolant system kept blowing. I had it repaired over, and over, and over and it would still just not work properly. It leaked coolant like crazy, I had to carry a gallon of water in the car at all times just in case my anti-freeze all leaked out and I needed to fill in an emergency. In the end I had them bypass the entire heating system as well (which SLOWED the leaking of the coolant, but did not altogether stop it), so the car had 0 ability to make heat or defrost (I may be in Florida, but in the winter our windshields can still need to be de-iced).....it wasn't fun.

So one day while driving home it overheat and completely shut down on me, I pushed it to the side of the road and got a ride home. Long-story short I ended up with my Tacoma the next day and never looked back. Besides...I get to claim I drive a TACO! It gets better gas mileage than my Taurus which was a plus as well (it's only a 4 cyl).

Re: Buying a car- your opinion?

Jesus. No wonder that experience soured you. I'm glad I never had anything like that in my Escort ZX2. Or, for that matter, in the Taurus my mom drove for years.

Make sure you get a stick shift, much more fun to drive. I'm looking to get a Golf TDI. Diesel engines last longer

Tragically, the only stick I know how to handle is the one I was born with. Never learned manual transmission.

FACT: Vans were invented by Chinese warlords in the third century, but the knowledge was lost when the Mongol hordes, unable to get them to accommodate their horses, destroyed the designs.
