well, I think to answer your OP, I may not speak for everyone, but I don't particularly want to see anyone get hurt because of BE, so since we have magical, or unexplained forces at work with the process, I prefer pain out of it as well.

BE stories usually don't include pain because the audience generally wants the subject to not suffer....

A lot of BE in anime is either an erotic transformation or torture. The erotic ones usually have the expansion occur mid-orgasm, the torture ones usually have a lot of screaming and involuntarily dripping from every orifice.

The whole growing pains thing makes it look like reality would be closer to the torture.

I really laugh at people who want every little detail to be 100% accurate and realistic. Especially if we're talking about a fantasy fetish that doesn't even exist in real life.
