I don't know the exacting conditions behind the medication that I take, but it was derived from some sort of cell research.. and basically, I would not be ALIVE right now if it had not been made.. To me, thats enough evidence to support stem-cell research. o.o;; Nya-haha? ;.;
Which on the other hand gives me a good excuse to enjoy life and come to websites like this one. XP

Also.. I don't see why they can't use the umbilical cords for cell samples.... theres plenty of stem cells that get rogued off onto those....

You just countered yourself. Fat cells =/= stemcells. A fully developed human (read:non-embrionic) has very few sources of stem cells, although I do recall hearing somewhere that there was still a way to get stem cells from adults. I think it as from bone marrow or a similar source, though, so that's right out.

Odds are they're using the fat to help the stem cells in creating the right kind of tissue.

I always laughed to myself saying Japan would be the first to perfect real life be. Now all we have to do is wait for them to start mass producing giant robots!

It's funny when you think about it but heres Japan using stem cell research for something like breast enlargement but here in the U.S. it's frowned upon, even for something as serious as cancer research. The stupidity here is astounding.

My first memory...I smelled smoke, and I think I had set my hair on fire with a candle or something. I mainly remember my mother screaming at me.

Also, you wonder what ELSE they could make larger with this technique. How long until we see amazon women or...something we just haven't yet imagined? o_o What if it happens anyways because the stem cells don't stay put, especially given the consensus thus far is that there's no guarantee the damn things are gonna do what you want if you just mix it up and squeeze it in...

I smell smoke.

I always thought that Japan would eventually develop giant robots capable of levelling cities. I can just imagine the irony if one of these giant robots decimated an American city WITHOUT using a nuke.
Also, it would be piloted by a large breasted japanese schoolgirl.

Nope.

See this article titled "Fat can be Stem Cells"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in646988.shtml

Also, this one says they harvest the stem cells from the woman's own fat.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1965

To be fair I believe you are technically correct. One of the articles I checked out (not one of the above) said the stem cells were actually between the fat cells, not the fat cells themselves.

So we don't need to argue the ethics of embryonic stem cell research here, since it does not seem to apply.

If we are going to argue that topic, it should be in General Discussion or Flame & Bullshit. Or better still, a board devoted to that sort of thing.

(By the way, where does the =/= for not equals come from? I'm just curious, I like to program and have never seen that one before.)

It's the layman's way of expressing: ≠
It's a mathematics symbol, in programming you would probably use "!=" so I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't seen "≠" before.

Part of the problem that people aren't realizing is that cancer is not a disease. You don't just catch it, it isn't something that you can protect yourself from. Cancer is what happens when your cells start to break down and start growing at an uncontrolled rate because their growth isnt' being inhibited properly.

So, as it's been said, there's no cure for cancer. It's called getting old. You can't stop it, you can just make it happen faster with bad habits.

The American Cancer Society calls cancer a disease... so... umm... I'm going to conclude that means you're wrong.
