Sorry, don't know -- I've never tried the BBC player. The BBC is probably doing a better job of detecting proxy servers than YouTube is; YouTube just wants eyeballs for advertising, but the BBC has an interest in keeping their programming seen only by people who have paid the British television license fee that funds their operations.
