The above discussion evolved into making a comic with AI art. I've only seen one attempt at this, which was not good. But I think with some hard work, I could help make something beautiful. However some people are very upset by AI, for reasons that don't make sense to me. Here is a part of that thread:

You weren't imagining that the AI could output a whole comic on its own, were you? They can't even figure out how the alphabet works!

I was figuring that each panel would need to be assembled from multiple renderings, require extensive touch up, and need to be re-rendered many times to get the right pose and activity. Few AI artists seem to know how to get an AI to consistently create the same people in different poses, but wearing the same clothes. Compositions need to be manually extended and modified to include space for word balloons. Before any of that, we'd need page layouts so we know what to ask the AI for. That could not be automated at all. And of course a concise and efficiently told story that fits in the available number of pages - That's the opposite of what AI stories are like. I haven't seen any sign that anyone has tried to teach an AI about panel transitions or visual storytelling. All of that has to come from the artists & writers.

AI might be able to improve art quality within individual panels, but comics include a lot of hard work beyond that.

I've been enjoying all the new pics on DeviantArt. The idea that it is somehow "Stolen" or "Not art" doesn't make sense to me. If it is "stolen", where are the originals that looks the same? If it is "not art" then why do I enjoy it?

First I would like to share where I stand on AI image generation as of now:

I tend to agree with Prof_Sai that generating images that are consistent does require some skill and knowledge. Yet I can’t say that there are many AI generated images I would pay for. This has more to do with not finding the works distinct enough, then thinking it takes no skill to produce.

Is your unwillingness to pay for AI generated works related to a lac in value, or is it related to ethical concerns?

For example, if someone managed to generate truly amazing original looking art; using a dataset only containing works in the public domain. Would you think this has value?

All the best AI pics aren't SW though. We have to take what we can get. Also, I do prefer the less realistic ones.

Definitely and then to consider that these were to 'good' outputs. I've seen some nightmare fuel being shared of prompts gone horribly wrong.
Despite there still being some strange looking elements in images generated, there has been a lot of progress just this year.

Nightmare fuel is an issue, but bad art is hardly something that wasn't a problem before AI.

If you skimmed art of artists without consent then started claiming that amended art as yours, there's usually trouble. That's the current gripe with "ai" art. It's permuted art scraped from other works.
