Transformation in Literature
Been wanting to get back to reading again. Anyone have any recommendations for novels with nice transformation scenes? Had a hard time finding any werewolf stories in horror lately (my local bookstore's filled to the brim with zombie novels...) and Kelly Armstrong seems to have cornered the market on the supernatural genre...
...so I guess I wanna know if anyone's read anything good lately |

Re: Transformation in Literature
Try "Wild Blood" and "Walking Wolf: A Weird Western" from Nancy A. Collins

Re: Transformation in Literature
Blood and Chocolate is a pretty good read (but don't touch the movie version).

Re: Transformation in Literature
I still highly recommend The Last Werewolf and Talullah Rising by Glen Duncan

Re: Transformation in Literature
All of these seem to be werewolf TFs. Does anyone know of any books with other animal transformations?

Re: Transformation in Literature
Thanks for the suggestions! I think I see a few familiar names among them too.
I've also been looking for any novels where the Mind is the plaything of the Body trope crops up prominently when it comes to transformations. The tropes page is kind of sparse for the literature section. |

Re: Transformation in Literature
Animorphs was what got me interested TFs in the first place. I think I read through most of them and still remember most of the scenes.
The termite one was terrifying... |

Re: Transformation in Literature
Well, true. But snake TFs are rare, especially ones with any detail. I think the disappointment of reading that book is what lead to me write my own snake TF later. Oh well, I just thought I'd put that out there as it's one of the few non-werewolf books I have.

Re: Transformation in Literature
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "Pig Tales: A Novel of Lust and Transformation" by Marie Darrieussecq. The entire novel is an extensive transformation of a young woman into a pig, stretched over 120 pages. There is a lot of sex scenes in it as well, as she transforms from acts of degradation (sort of). It's social satire, but also perfect TF material. The original version is French but there is a great English translation available if you can find a copy.

Re: Transformation in Literature
Just about everything by Jack L. Chalker has transformed characters, though I'm not sure if he wrote any detailed transitions, I've only read a few of his books.

Re: Transformation in Literature
I've read a fair amount, and there really isn't a lot of what this forum would define as "process"; most of his transformations are of the "poof" variety, or nearly so. But there is a lot of the transformation subjects attempting to deal with their new forms/new worlds/new political structures/new whatever.
