Re: Lucky Mallet - Shrink Fan Comics

I do not understand why half-complete comics are published.

The littlest Sister had a complete story, but felt like that was it. That's fine, it was a good story.

Suzy and Frank comics for example told a single story that had a proper beginning, middle, and end. However they left room so that the story could continue after.

The more I drink was a complete story. Lucky Mallet is half a story, cut off on purpose so people will have to wait for months to get the second half only to find out that the second part is actually part one extended and at the end, the story isn't close to being resolved.

Do all comics need proper endings? No. Do comics need cliffhangers that could imply more after? It sure helps. Can you just make a cliff hanger in the middle of a story so people have to wait months to see the second part?

Lucky mallet is a very pretty comic and I like the art style but beyond that I feel that waiting a whole month, paying $15 made this comic feel cheep and underwhelming.

We do understand that some users dislike having multiple comics that don't end on a complete story. But it's also true that some stories simply don't work well when limited to a mere 15 pages - I'd have hated to have to condense all my ideas for Small Fortune into a single issue!

That's why we endeavor to have a good balance of multipart stories and one-shots; for instance, the two previous releases were single-issue complete stories, next month's comic is a one-shot, and Operation Half Off works as a series of vignettes that wrap up in one issue. You should also keep an eye out for The Invisible Girl 2, which will conclude that story.

Each Small Fortune comic felt to me like a serial adventure. Each issue did an excellent job of completing a smaller adventure arc while leaving us with a "how will our hero get out of this?!" moment. It's a testament to the quality of the writing.

Very eager for this!

That's a fantastic idea!

On this topic, I don't mind waiting for the next part because I expect that the comics in between will be interesting too. For the most part, I've really enjoyed the diversity of comics--both in shrinking subject matter and in one-shot vs. series balance. There have only been a very small number of comics in the ShrinkFan catalog that I didn't care for. And that's another reason I don't mind waiting. I'd rather wait six or more months for a second and third part that I really like than endure two or three consecutive months of a series I don't like.

But if anyone wants more one-shot stories, then write one. To keep production going, there needs to be scripts, and if many of those scripts are part of a series, that's what's going to get produced. I've tried to balance that myself in my own submissions. Out of the three scripts I've submitted, two of them (A Small Sacrifice & The Littlest Sister) are one-shots, and the other (Laundry Day) was the first of a planned series. I'm writing others, including one that would span several installments. If they select it, great, and if they don't, they don't.

Overall, I'm just grateful that they exist, that they welcome submissions, and that they put out consistently solid content. I wish they had enough subscribers to warrant putting out two comics a month like GiantessFan, but we all know the SW community is smaller to the much larger GTS community. Pun inevitably intended.

All of this.

If I didn't work for the site, I'd still be cheerleading it for exactly that reason, and I'd still be just as disappointed that SFan can't currently offer two a month.

Background notes no one cares about:

The mallet is based on the golden mallet belonging to Daikokuten, god of commerce and wealth and one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. With one shake it can make gold coins appear or grant any wish.

It appears several times in popular tales, but most famously in Issun-boushi: at the end of the story the titular one-inch hero obtains the mallet after defeating two oni, and makes a wish on it to become a boy of average height. From that comes the mallet's association with size-changing.

Thank you for this cultural background. Didn't know that.
Could you provide us with a link where we can read this story?

Unfortunately most people do not posses the skill to write a story. I know I don't. And not everyone is going to like the same types of things.

I'm glad too. Shrink Fan may not have the subs Giantess Fan has, but it does have far better content. Personally the GTS stuff is filled with horrible things in general.

As for "Lucky Mallet" I haven't come to a conclusion on what I think of it. Though I find the ending confusing.

Dude.

If you'd seen some of the stuff that's been submitted to me and I've managed to edit into a functional script... xD

Re: Lucky Mallet - Shrink Fan Comics

I can understand that. And maybe I'm just a fan of more one-shot stories because I don't have to wait 4-6 months for a conclusion. Sorry for the outburst! v.v

However I love the invisible girl universe and have story ideas, a bunch of one-shots and one continuous in that universe that follow a young woman named Kira, who is a size-enthusiast that works for Size-Tek and a cosplayer for the yearly Sizecon. If you would like to brainstorm with that idea let me know.
