How to get a female werewolf movie actually released

posting this as sorta a joke....I had the though of this based on a common trend in most of the female werewolf movies that have actually been released out of production limbo , this seems to be the plot of most of them in some form or close to it

1) The lycanthropy/other werebeast change will be a direct analogy to female puberty and the story has to be written by a man so he has no real understanding of it, like somehow a female that becomes sexually empowered is dangerous and feral and needs to be hunted down and killed, of course by a posse of local old men with hunting rifles, police involvement will be minimal or not at all.

2) The change will only be a one way change, as the female protagonist cannot gain the power of being a werewolf and sexual freedom without permanently losing her humanity in the process, becoming a "monster" in the eyes of all other humans and excluded from society.

3) The female protagonist will be a teenager, basically just old enough to hit puberty. If the film is going to be made in Europe she will be on the creepy side of young. If north american she will be a bit older so she can have sex with the love interest on screen. She will always only have a male parent/guardian, and despite raising the girl for at least 13-16 years he will have no familial connection, treating the girl basically like a goldfish , feed her but nothing else. And of course he will know of her heritage but say nothing about it, nor offer any help.

4) She will be anti-social, emotionally underdeveloped and especially inexperienced with any male other than her male parent/guardian. Intelligence will usually be average or slightly sub par as its not required after she changes so the writer dosn't have to have any real back story to her. Appearance wise she will be very plain, no attempts at makeup or style and the actress used to play a 16ish year old girl must be at least in her late 20's to early 30's for no reason.

5) She will be pulled from her solitary reclusive lifestyle into a mainstream school setting, no need to have any complex situation to get the attractive loner guy to notice her and see past her plain looks and no personality to the "woman" inside, almost always a party where she shows up to experience it, gets embaressed and the guy finds her to comfort her out of the blue.

6) Her first changes will all revolve around mental and urges as her need to breed is really all thats important to the story. Hair growth will be the main change pre-sex and it will be very minor, only enough to hint at her maturing body and the male shes attracted to will be totally fine with it and she will be the initiator of the sexual encouter and the dominant one.

7)Immediatly following sex as shes no longer a virgin the more dehumanizing changes will begin, her looks will become far more beastial creating revulsion and fear in all those around her leading to the need to run away and abandon her male partner with no regard for pairbonding.

8) Mindless agression will follow the change, there is no attempt at Intelligence, the writer's only knowledge of wolf habits and society will be from watching youtube video's of dog fights so bloodthirsty monster is the only outcome

9) The final form of the female werewolf will need to be inhuman or neutral rather than portray her as a female humanoid with the benefits of her animal nature so as not to sexualize her. That way the antagonists can kill her with no feelings of guilt and "put her out of her misery". If by some chance she does survive a full wolf change will be needed so she simply fades into nature never to be seen again

Re: How to get a female werewolf movie actually released

If you are writing this as a male protagonist the following rules apply

1) His change into a werewolf will be related to puberty and asserting himself over other males, the changes makes him an "alpha" and stronger and better than the normal humans that pick on him. Basically the nerdy kid gets a cheat code to be tougher than those teasing him.

2) He will be able to shift between a normal man and a hybrid version where he gains all the perks and abilites of being a werewolf with minimal side effects if any. He will use his abilites to win but not draw a mob of pitchforks after him

3) In his new form he will exude a charisma, for males it will be him being more dominant, and for females he will have a sexual attractiveness that both scares and arouses them.

4) He will find a female love interest who will be a werewolf herself, this is the only time the female werewolves will have an intelligence and appearance more appealing. But at the same time be submissive to his alpha nature, she may have some sass but not full on agression.

5) If she is a human and remains one she will be a borderline mary sue, she will be abnormally talented in skills that assist him fighting the antagonist but have a more submissive personality, often a nerdy girl.

So basically it has to be the plot to:

Ginger Snaps
When Animals Dream
The Wildling
Cat People (also sort of fits that model)

or if male
Teen Wolf
Big Wolf on Campus

The 80s didn't have this problem, we had The Howling series back then.

I agree with most of your points if you’re talking about a mainstream movie. But “Betsy” and “Bonehill Road” didn’t share your plot points, and they were both released last year. Of course, they were indie and very low-budget. The trick is marrying a big budget with a female werewolf movie that features an indie sensibility (and, of course, an extended TF scene), but I think I’ve finally accepted the fact that, at this point, for that to truly happen, one of us would have to win the lottery.

Re: How to get a female werewolf movie actually released

The main problem is most mainstream audiences don't want to see a hairy aggressive humanoid werewolf woman as the hero of the film, empowered and strong. Its not sexy to them and that equals nobody will pay money to see it. I think the last actual "mainstream" female werewolf oriented movies would be Cursed (2004) ...only change was her eyes and mental and the werewolf was a male
and Blood and Chocolate (2007)...poof tf into full wolf, again only eyes and mental and again the female was more a submissive.

Actually, the werewolf was female in “Cursed,” played by Judy Greer ("Jurassic World"). I’m sure you’re aware they actually had the legendary Rick Baker designing the werewolf and even the TF (he posted a few pics on Twitter years ago), but for some godforsaken reason (probably money), they fired him and hired some cheap CGI BS. Also, what a waste to have a werewolf movie star the lovely Christina Ricci as one of the beasts, and all they do is throw contact lenses and vampire fangs on her. “Cursed,” indeed (old joke, I know).
Words cannot describe the disappointment that the “Blood and Chocolate” movie was. Besides the “poof TFs,” as you mentioned, it was based on my favorite werewolf novel, and the story was NOTHING like the book. All they did was keep the character names and title of the property (oh, and there were werewolves involved). Also, at one point, Jennifer Love Hewitt was supposed to star in it, and at the time, she was my favorite actress looks-wise, so that would’ve been a huge treat for me.

It's a "what we want" vs "what will sell" scenario, unfortunately.
While a AWIL-style transformation with a female character would be the greatest thing ever, i'm not sure if that could fly at all in the current social climate.

Re: How to get a female werewolf movie actually released

All these conversations have become truly common here through the years... in my opinion, save for the fabulous 80s, the things about TF content in mainstream have been going downhill, but during the last 5-8 years the stuff in non-commercial circles have become better and better, so maybe we should watch in a different direction instead of waiting too much from mainstream.
