Favourite setting for a transformation story?

Here's one for you lot.

what is your favourite kind of setting for a transformation based story.

you like it set in modern times? or maybe far in the distant future? in the medevil times? in another world that's completely made up. or maybe a certain year that's important to you. or maybe a historic event? or a certain part of the world or the part of the world you live in? maybe it doesnt matter?

your thoughts? any ideas?

Modern times, easier to relate to. I appreciate a realistic setting, and everyday situations.

I agree with that. Keeping everything as realistic as possible is a good idea. Just exploring the TF issue without other distracting elements.

Re: Favourite setting for a transformation story?

This is one of those things that I really can't say I have any preference for. Medieval fantasy, a distant planet, some historical time and place, modern times - makes no difference to me as a reader.

That said, a modern, realistic setting is easier as a writer because it doesn't require a lot of research or world building, which can get a little distracting if all you're trying to do is tell a simple TF story,

I agree. Modern times is a more preferable setting.

I have to chime in with the chorus of modernists here. My interest in transformation is entirely prurient, so I don’t really want to spend a lot of time on world-building or historical detail when I could be getting “down to business”, as it were.
