is it worth me setting up a Patreon?
As a few know around here. I'm moving house soon and quitting my job main to become an artist full time. I have my own side projects but I was wondering if its worth me setting a Patreon.
I'd upload every day since I have a back long of stuff waiting to be scanned. I dont know the details yet I was wanting to know if there was interest in my art. Thanks for your time. |

Re: is it worth me setting up a Patreon?
A Patreon could help you to "round" you accountancy, but that cannot (and should not) be you main source of income. As far as I am concerned, the typical way is:
1) Get a "normal" job (or more than one) to cover your living expenses and get some money to invest in your future career ->here the Patreon can help you. 2) Use the extra money (from the Patreon, for example) to attend to art classes. forums, expositions, contact to professional artists... it is not only to learn how to paint, design and so on, but also about getting info, peers and entering into the artistic community in your country. 3)After some time (a few years, if you're lucky) you could get decently-paid jobs and you could become a full-time artist. The artist career is not an easy one, and needs lots of previous work . |

Honestly, I would advise against it right now.
Build up your skills, get a following, then start to monetize. Running a successful Patreon is hard work, even fantastic artists have a difficult time getting a keeping Patrons. That's just my two cents on it.

Trust me getting a following wont be a problem. If all the notes I get on my DA are anything to go by. Also money is not the biggest issue. I wanted to I could not work for a whole 7 years.

Well if you're set on money, you probably don't really need the Patreon? You'll likely have trouble getting people to pledge money if they know you're already financially supported without it.

I was thinking of it as a place to upload stuff here and there. I got plans to set up my own site too but thats a long term thing.

If you're not looking to get paid, you don't need Patreon.

Patreon is a horrible place to upload stuff. If you really don't need the money, don't use it.
