O'course, Gimpshop hasn't been officially updated in about a decade, and the website gimpshop.com is run by a kinda-sorta patent troll who's made money off of a thing he didn't create and it can give you lots of viruses and malware.

So there's that. :/

It does cost 50 bucks but get on their mailing list and often they have sales where you might be able to get it for half price.

I cannot recommend the program enough especially if you are trying self teach yourself digital art...
I'm not trying to create digital art. I'm trying to do things like this...

Wait, seriously?

I didn't realise Scott deprecated the build and committed features back to GIMP, I figured it was still okay.

Re: Alternative to Photoshop

For free, you get gimp. Paintshop pro used to offer a 30 day trial. Probably still do. Try it. If you like it you can probably find an old copy in a remainder bin at bestbuy for 25 bucks.

Re: Alternative to Photoshop

I have been trying to use Gimp again. And it is one of the worst programs I have used. Can't even cut out and layer a railing without it messing up. I'm ready to just give up and wait a couple months and just buy Photoshop again.

Re: Alternative to Photoshop

Y'know, I'm honestly not sure why you're having such trouble with GIMP. I'll grant you it isn't as powerful as Photoshop, but it shouldn't be fucking up on you with something as simple as cutting out a part of something to make into a layer.

I mean, I know there are people who can make better collages than me, but I like to think mine are decent, and I make them with GIMP. I'd say they're up to the standards of that Elvira example you posted.

I don't know why either. I can't do any large selections without it selecting half the image. I can only seem to get straight lines with the manual select tool and rectangle selection tool. Even unselecting things is a chore.

Nice examples. I think they are better than mine. The Elvira one was one of the last two I did. It looks like I wont be doing any more for some time. As I can't find one good tutorial.

Might give you enough time to knock out a collage or two, while you're saving up to buy it?

Thank you.

I thought about that. But I don't have the time to mess with it right now.

Re: Alternative to Photoshop

There's also a similar paid product several big names switched to when Photoshop went subscription, name escapes me at the moment.
