Wait, so her original name was "Tim"? Isn't there a country song called "Tim, Wish You'd Been Born a Girl"? Coincidence? Perhaps...

Dangerously close to eugenics here.

Re: Real Life TG Using HRT

I'm surprised that all of this isn't more prevalent in this day and age, actually the chances of a person being inter-sexed is amazingly high. I kid you not in all statistics at least 1 of the posters in this very thread as at least some form of inter-sex. The most common being that you have male genitalia, male physique, and produce a standard level of male testosterone. The catch? You're female, under a Karyotype you'll show an XX chromosome, not XY, literally, a woman trapped in a man's body. Believe it, or not.

And before questions abound like "Who the **** is this guy?" I was TA for many years in a college course that teaches the "ethics of otherness" which includes birth oddities and basically anyone physically or mentally labeled outsiders, so... yeah like 2 solid months of the class are dedicated to this subject. Good times...

Hopefully it'll get to a point like Dr. Suess's Sneeches, in which everyone becomes united under the fact we are different. Once we get over judging others by the exterior we can finally move forward.

Sorry, for the seriousness of the post, these transitions, however, are definitely impressive.

That's something I would love to see happen.

Right, this thread has gotten much too serious.

We need something ridiculous!

Re: Real Life TG Using HRT

As a trans-person, I figured I'd offer a little bit of info for this thread. First, hormones can do wonders, provided they are administered early. If HRT is started pre-puberty can have mind-bogglingly good results. HRT has less of an effect on the body as a person ages. For example, if a 22 year old transitioned, the hormones would have a greater effect on their bodies than a 32 or 42 year old. Basically, hormones become exponentially less effective as a person ages. What's more, hormones don't change bone structure at all. If you have broad shoulders before you transition, you will have them after (provided you don't have any major growth spurts left in you, hence what I said earlier about transitioning early). MtF hormone replacement therapy WILL change your primary and secondary sexual characteristics, though. This typically includes, but is not limited to: sterility, decreased (or non-existent) sexual performance as a male, breast growth (usually a size smaller than females in the immediate family), redistribution of fat to a more female pattern, a thinning of body hair (though not a complete elimination, hence why many trans-females have their hair (typically facial) removed via electrolysis or similar treatment), and a halt to hair loss (i.e. male pattern baldness). There are other effects, but those are the ones that came to me first. HRT does not change the voice, but it can be made to sound passably female with training (there are at least a few DVDs on the subject).

If anyone here is considering transitioning...it's a long, hard road. Even after the "physical" transition is done, the journey has just begun. People will perceive and treat you in a completely different way as a female (and and in yet another (often, worse) way if they know you're trans, but that's a different topic). I am by no means an expert on the subject, but I can recommend two good websites for those who are interested:

http://www.tsroadmap.com/index.html
and
http://www.lauras-playground.com/ (especially the forums).

I think the most important message in all of this is that you don't have to go it alone. There are people out there who have had similar experiences, and are happy to help you, if you look. Also, I don't want to sound preachy, but I feel I would be remiss if I didn't say: please, please, PLEASE don't self-medicate with hormones. That's a good way to kill yourself. Honestly, find a way to see a doctor...your transition will be much smoother and much safer if you do.

Okay, I'll go back to lurking now...

Re: Real Life TG Using HRT

As the old saying goes: "your mileage may vary."

Also, the the videos above don't actually mention whether or not the persons involved had any surgery. If you think cis-females have options...well, trans-women can get all that and more. Brow reduction, adam's apple shave, and skin resurfacing just scratch the surface; the list goes on and on. HRT can do a lot, but it has limits. Also, a 4-6 minute video can make transitioning look quick and painless, but there's always awkward periods, adjustment periods, androgynous periods...it's hard, not to mention expensive! In the end a lot of it comes down to attitude and comfort level...but I going off on a tangent. I did a google search for trans-lol'cats, and this was what turned up...

Nodnod.....unpleasant and risky surgery. One of my close friends is considering it and I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. It's not that noticeable but, then again we are often our own worst critics....

If only the transition from mtf was as effective as the ftm with regards to the effects of hormones....
