It's coming up with a Notepad window if I have renpy.exe load, but this is from the title screen.

Knowing Python, that's probably an escape-character issue in the path.
What happens if you move the dist directory to drive root (D:\)?

Bestarred, the notepad thing is intentional :P Try Vincents solution and if that doesnt work, just send me/post its traceback to sort it out.

Ive got people from here suggesting NPCs and the sort, and going shy because English isnt their first language.

That's interesting. If you open Wordpad, is Arial a selectable font?
This sounds trivial, but there are some real whackjobs out there with an axe to grind with Monotype Corp.

Ah, bonkers. The Arial error. Muhznit found a solution to that. I'll pasta the procedure (I'll get it patched in the next version though)

...I later managed to remedy it by copying Arial.ttf from my font folder to the same directory as the rest of the media and images, under the assumption that your loader class just loads everything all at once.

So, basically, from your font folder (open control panel => Fonts or just download it) get Arial.ttf and copy it to the same folder all of the game images are in. Should solve that.

Sounds like a bad PATH variable is being used to "find" fonts, am I right?

Indiegogo? I have heard of that before but mostly because I've been reading news surrounding kickstarter. Is it something similiar like kickstarter or is there some difference? Good luck with the project either way though.
