Has the bottom fallen out of the growth/GTS paid content market?

I've noticed that ZZZ, Tetsu and a few others have either stopped releasing comics or moved on to Patreon. Are people not buying content anymore? Is it a problem with piracy? Anyone know what's going on?

Re: Has the bottom fallen out of the growth/GTS paid content market?

Well, piracy has *always* been a problem with this stuff. It seems unlikely that it would've gotten so much worse within the last year that it drove everyone out of the market (though it did finally cause a change in how Media Impact does their stuff).

Tetsu's always been kind of a slow worker (though definitely worth the wait), but I have noticed a sharp decline in ZZZ's output. No idea why, though. Patreon may have something to do with it, as it seems like a more reliable source of money than just putting out a comic and hoping it sells. However, I don't see that as a likely culprit for the entirety of the problem...

I'd say send Z a message and ask what's up, but he isn't the best at replying in a timely fashion (or, y'know, at all).

I plan to start doing a few growth comics myself, once I get a couple of my outstanding debts paid off. Maybe in a few years' time I'll have an explanation right from the horse's mouth? lol

The problem isn't just piracy.

The problem is that when it comes to porn, this stuff simply doesn't sell as much. It's a niche market as it is.

And yeah, when most studios force themselves to go to straight up commissions, it tends to force content into a dry spell. Why? Because not a lot of people have the money to pay for commissions.

When it comes to expenses very few people have enough to make this fetish community a priority.

Another factor could be life gets in the way. Things come up and take away any attention that could be given to making this sort of content.

I mean, maybe? But there for a long time, Z was putting out like one comic a week. That seems like the kind of regular schedule that's a bit hard to suddenly disrupt, especially given that he wasn't the one actually making the artwork.

IMO. If I had to take a guess it is just easier to work on Patreon. It probably makes a lot more money than selling individual comics. Since people are more willing to buy a subscription to an Artist rather than individual comics, and will pay more for a back log. The trend started before Patreon when subscription sites for specific fetishes came out. Also with Patreon you don't have to worry as much about PayPal or what have you deciding to drop you because after years of working they finally decide your "porn" and cannot do business with you. Also it would seem to help with Piracy since I don't see as much content behind Patreon floating around for free.

I understand Patreon is nice for artists, but do people really prefer buying content that way? The system just seems so unfriendly towards the consumer and so prone to scams.

Personally I'd much rather buy individual comics, but I'm old, maybe I've fallen behind the times.

qzar9999: I love your comics (and your stories), I'm happy to hear you are working on publishing more.

Re: Has the bottom fallen out of the growth/GTS paid content market?

I think it is a combination of factors as is befitting of real life. It probably has bottomed out for many content makers as it is a niche thing. I don't use Patreon so I don't know anything about it. Piracy will always be a thing and it will hurt profit margins of creators.

I have stopped buying lots of content. But that is because of all the violence people seem to put into growth content. It is really off putting for me.

But not every content creator is the same, which is why my statement was more generalized than specific to any one person.

I think that's just a case of artists going where the money is? I would love to see some actual market research based on sales numbers, I'd be curious to see if the GTS community is really that much into violence or if it's just a case of a vocal minority skewing the numbers.

I hear you though, I could do with more content that's not violence or vore related.

Re: Has the bottom fallen out of the growth/GTS paid content market?

I appreciate your voicing this. Always hoping for content, but haven't stressed about Tetsu and ZZZ.

Tetsu has probably done as much as he wants for now and is probably experimenting with new things now and then and may someday produce stuff from his new experimentations. Just gotta let artists live their lives.

ZZZ I was worried since he said he needed his site to go down for a while and it hasn't published new stuff since, and in addition to an artist he is also a publishing house for other artists that he (presumably) commissions, but I'm not worried anymore because I've been watching his patreon (without even being a member yet) and it seems there is work on new products going on because there are previews posted. Probably just a combination of the website, summer vacations of him or other artists, real life, and SizeCon.

Re: Has the bottom fallen out of the growth/GTS paid content market?

Tetsu is burned out, like many artists out there he has run out of juice. It happens to eveyone of us and he'll be back eventually when he feels inspired again.

ZZZ has some problems I believe. Either comissions are not coming in fast enough or something else is going on. HE also lost a lot of buyers by making too many different comics. He has the story club syndrome with too many new stories coming out when old ones are not finished.

As for buying comics instead of Patreon, not an easy thing. Most site allowing selling do not allow adult content material on their site. E-junkie and other popular spot specify in their policy they do not allow it. Are there artist using them anyways? yes. Are they at risk, yes they are.

Patreon on the other hand allows adult content as long as it's private and doesn't show on the public pages. It also has a deal with Paypal that allows it's use for transaction without the danger of being banned from Patreon. SO yeah that's why most adult artists use Patreon. It's way easier and safe than any other site right now...

SO there you have it folks, wall of text from the silly DragoonGTS.
