Re: Empowered Petite - Can Shrinking Be Liberating?
This is the title short story of the compilation book, "The Miniature Wife."
https://www.vqronline.org/articles/2...iniature-wife/ (My computer asked to confirm if this was safe - if you get a prompt, just say the link is an exception). A man who works as a professional "miniaturist" accidentally shrinks his wife (no process) and has to keep her satisfied while working on a cure. As far as this discussion goes, I think this story illustrates a sort of "breaking free" theme through shrinking: the husband (as narrator and sole voice for the story) pieces together clues about his tiny wife after she disappears for a while. She demonstrates though weird things like bugs impaled on sticks and other physical feats that she, once proper and reserved, has become somewhat feral in her quest for survival. There's a hot description as he describes what he imagines she's going through and how she's physically toughened to deal with the enormous challenges. The couple soon have a falling out and, without spoiling too much, the tiny woman clearly becomes a goddamn ninja through the amazing stuff she pulls off. She's not exactly happy or what you would call "liberated," but she's definitely stronger and more dangerous despite - really BECAUSE of - her small stature. |
