Re: Obama won! And that means...

Nope. It just means reduced troop levels and a renewed focus on Afghanistan. We won't rest until every last Muslim is dead.

I don't think so, you Republican bastard!

Now that your precious McCain lost, this "war" (read: massacre) will be over and all the US troops will go home.

No longer will US troops butcher innocent Muslim women and children!

No longer will Muslim people fear living in the US, victims of xenophobia and paranoia!

No longer will innocent Muslim civilians stay in home for fear of being shot by US troops!

Finally, the greatest military debacle since Vietnam will be over!

Scusi? Obama never said he'd withdraw the troops. You must have him confused with a less mainstream politician like Ron Paul or Ralph Nader. The Iraq war will continue, albeit in subdued form. This is why these things are so depressing. Everyone on the right spends a great deal of time making the other guy seem much more left than he is. The same thing happened with Bill Clinton. You just elected a centrist democrat, who, while willing to enact some left wing reforms, will otherwise maintain the status quo.

Edit: Also, I resent your slur of "republican bastard," Or at least I would if it made any sense. What did I say that betrayed a right wing viewpoint? Are you just labeling any criticism of Obama as right wing? Does that not make you no better than the right wing criticizers you so bemoan? These are interesting rhetorical questions that should generally be asked before saying things, not after.

Re: Obama won! And that means...

Were you in cryogenic freezing during the many, MANY times in his campaign when he said he as against the Iraq War and promised to end it once and for all?

And if you think the Iraq War will continue, it's because you WANT it to continue. And the only ones who want it to continue are the braindead gun-toting rednecks that voted for McCain.

As painful as it is letting the war drag on, withdrawing all troops cold turkey would be worse. The US should never have gone in there, but now they're stuck with the quagmire and they have to see it through. Luckily, come January they'll be doing it under a commander-in-chief with a brain in his head.

Re: Obama won! And that means...

Here, I've got links

http://obama.senate.gov/issues/iraq/

Quote:
Senator Obama has called for a responsible redeployment of our combat troops that pushes Iraq's leaders toward a political solution, rebuilds our military capability, and refocuses our resources on Afghanistan and our broader security interests. A residual force would remain in Iraq to target international terrorists, protect our service members and diplomats, and train and support Iraq's security forces as long as the Iraqis make political progress.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/iraq/

Quote:
The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.
Strangely enough, I can only find allusions to his Afghanistan policy, tucked away in sections like defense and foreign policy.

Here's an AP fact check:

http://www.dispatchpolitics.com/live...q.html?sid=101

Quote:
"Sen. Obama has displayed great leadership on this issue," Biden wrote, pointing out that Obama chaired the confirmation hearing for the ambassador to NATO and nearly a year ago called for the deployment of at least two additional combat brigades to Afghanistan.
Here's the source for that source

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-t.../obama_to.html

and lastly we have his Wikipedia article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politic...f_Barack_Obama

Quote:
Afghanistan

Obama announced a plan — if elected — to deploy an additional 7,000 troops to Afghanistan. "As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan" "We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there" "I would not hold our military, our resources and our foreign policy hostage to a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq," Obama said on July 14, 2008.[122]

After meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on July 25 as part of a world tour, Obama said in the joint news conference with Sarkozy, "Afghanistan is a war that we have to win" because al-Qaeda and the radical Islamic Taliban movement cannot be allowed to establish new havens for planning "terrorist attacks . . . that could affect Paris or New York." Obama declared that there were no effective options to this policy, saying, "So we don't have a choice; we've got to finish the job." Obama said the United States "needs to send two additional brigades at least" to Afghanistan and praised Sarkozy for his willingness to send more French troops to that country.[123]
Here is an interview with BBC's HARDtalk Wherein he says that his 16 months plan is a best case scenario.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...lk/7281805.stm

And lastly here is an article pointing out some "wobbling" in regards to his aforemention 16 months plan.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...aq-troops.html

Quote:
On his website, Mr Obama promises he "will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months".

But he told journalists in North Dakota that those policies could be "refined" in the light of what he finds in Iraq.

"I've always said the pace of withdrawal would be dictated by the safety and security of our troops and the need to maintain stability," he said.

"When I go to Iraq and have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I'm sure I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies."
So, I'm hoping you'll do what I do and act like a realist in this situation.

Edit: also for this

Quote:

There are problems with your logic here. I don't feel like pointing out exactly what, as that takes energy and you probably won't change anyway, judging from my past attempts at educating other people as to how to improve their reasoning skills.

They said the same thing about Vietnam, AND IT EVENTUALLY ENDED.

Re: Obama won! And that means...

"Reasonable deployment" means sending the troops home in a matter of months as opposed to weeks, NOT having them stay so they keep slaughtering innocent Muslim women and children, budthedog.

Hey, can you please stop interjecting incendiary language into your posts? I voted for obama. Now leave me alone you dogmatic moderate liberal.

Quote:
Reasonable

1 a: being in accordance with reason <a reasonable theory> b: not extreme or excessive <reasonable requests> c: moderate , fair <a reasonable chance> <a reasonable price>
and

Quote:
deployment

noun
the distribution of forces in preparation for battle or work
Put them together and you have a distribution of forces with regards to reason for battle or work. Not "sending the troops home."

It's funny you should mention Vietnam. Richard Nixon was elected on a platform of "peace in the pacific" In 1968, three years into Vietnam. However, the war didn't end until the beginning of his second term in 1973, after He had bombed innocent civilians in neighboring countries, Seen the my lai massacre occur, and had hundreds of american soldiers die overseas.
