Re: Six Strikes
While I don't torrent things or download movies or music, I'm concerned that legitimate game downloads of material I've paid for would throw up a false flag and I'd have to present a receipt of digital purchases to prove the game I got from Steam or Xbox was paid for. I hope this dies like SOPA, maybe people can claim it's an invasion of privacy and get it banned on constitutional grounds? You can rest assured people won't take this bullshit lying down once they hear about it.

Re: Six Strikes
I'm no saint, but I'm more concerned about the implications for iTunes and legit streaming sites. Pirates gon' pirate, but is that really justification for "watch Leno online, go to jail"?
Whatever happened to "all things in moderation" and "tempering batshit-fucking-insane legislation with reasonable exceptions"?

Re: Six Strikes
Yeah I've spread this around ot everyone I know. The real idea behind this is that they're trying to get permission ot monitor people and provide less service to cut costs anytime they see something /they/ deem questionable.

Re: Six Strikes
Isn't this just a p2p entrapment scheme?

Re: Six Strikes
it's more than that. They're proposing to cut customers internet speeds if they spot what they deem as download of copyright material. basically anything you do would have to be monitored in realtime and if you do something they dont like, they send you to hte cornfield were your internets move very slowly.

Re: Six Strikes
I predict a new bumper crop of ISPs should they go too far.
Hell, half of Comcast's reason for even existing in the late 90's was "AOL sucks balls".

I pretty much get my mainstream music from purchase on itunes or amazon. Or I watch youtube music videos or listen to internet radio. I don't even have much interest in watching movies these days. Only clips from youtube or other sources and not p2p. (And there are other sources than sharing via p2p, right peoples?) So true. But would smaller ISP's be fast? I don't think so. Oh well.

Re: Six Strikes
Well, at least the worst this can do is slow your net connection if you rack up enough strikes...and six is very generous.

Re: Six Strikes
It's only "generous" so long as a "strike" has a set, legal definition as "sharing copyrighted videos and/or music over bandwidth-saturating services". Step much outside of that definition in the modern Web and things go downhill pretty goddamn quick. "Slippery slope" may be clich?, but it's no less a valid argument in the modern legal sphere.
