Wow. I do all my work on Poser personally, but perhaps I ought to start looking into switching over. How long are your renders taking?

It's a question I get asked here and there and to be honest, there's no single simple answer. As you no doubt know, being a "poser", render speed is affected by many variables. Iray renders appear in increments, each a little less grainy than the last. It's possible to get a semi decent looking render in under an hour, but I always cook 'em up for much much longer. Anywhere from 8 to 40 hours, though to be honest, there's very little difference after the first few hours. I just tend to want as much clarity as possible.
I used to use Poser (5, I think) myself, then gave DazStudio a spin. Took me a little while to re-wire my brain to the different layout, but nowadays, I find it pretty damn usable. I like it. Poser probably has a bit more going for it under the hood, but Daz is catching up fast and is $FREE

I rarely if ever find catgirl stuff truly sexy...but your process stuff is outstanding.

Holy crap dude, 8-40 hours?

I don't think I've ever gone over the pre-set 2 hour max.

Really that's the standard with any remotely good quality renders.

It's estimated the entirety of the first Shrek movie took an entire year in "rendering" time alone to actually make the final finished animated movie.

Aye. Mine average at about 12-20 hours. I usually queue up a few and let them churn out over a day or two while I get on with other things.

Yep, it's perhaps the only thing from stopping me putting out work any quicker. Workflow is definitely all centered around the render process itself.

You can probably achieve a simple 3 spotlight portrait with minimal or no backdrop in two hours or less with a half decent rig. I don't tend to do many of these and usually end up with a (perhaps sometimes overly) complex scene, that takes much longer to render.
There are a few little things here and there that add like .5% cool factor, but add a third to, or double render time. Personally, I'm usually inclined to chase that elusive 'half a percent', knowing that the majority of viewers won't notice/care (but knowing a few will!) rather than know I could have done better had I been more patient.
It's the pixel snob in me I suppose.

Well jeeze, you think you finally get a handle on Iray and it it turns out you're doing things comically wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
