The whole American cartoon was just very bad in so many ways. Making Ken and Ryu side characters alone should give you that idea.

Ryu and Ken are side characters in the animated movie as well. Lets face it, Ryu just walks around the world fighting while Guile and Chun-li are working on taking down an evil organization. I think Guile's story is a tad more interesting. Of course this takes place during SFII so not much about Akuma was revealed at the time.

The movie was just dumb and the series worse. Only decent character there was Cammy anyways. (I mean did they REALLY have to include everyone?)
