Re: Heavy Traffic

It seems as if Bakshi really knew how to push society's buttons.

Yeah, and evidently it was supposed to be only the first part of a trilogy. Bakshi wrote on his forum (http://www.ralphbakshi.com/forum/) that he already has the screenply for 'Wizards 2' written out and is just waiting for someone to finance it.

I'd like to see that.

Re: Heavy Traffic

I like the way that some people still don't understand that ralph used racism to highlight issues of the time. I think his films are pretty much the farthest thing from racist.
Ralph's films are made as if seen through a sort of stereotype lens, everyone gets their fair share the jewish, white people, gay people, everyone. He's trying to show people that the fact we recognise these stereotypes is what's wrong, not that they exist. We (society) created them for gods sake so we have to live with them we can't just brush them under the carpet like they don't exist.
The film's drawings are sort of the point in of themselves as most of the stories in his films are simple ganster adventures or experimental art pieces.
Or the story of the one normal guy representing the audience traveling through a world that doesn't understand it's own views on racism, which includes black people killing black people and white people killing white people and everything in between.

Shocking yes, racist no.

Re: Heavy Traffic

I just downloaded and watched Fritz the Cat in its entirety.

All I can say is
...
...
...
wow.

Just...

wow.

I didn't think it was racist, but they left NOTHING to the imagination. Every crazy nasty thing that could have happened happend. They smoked pot, had bathtub orgies (While smoking the pot of course), beat their girlfriends with chains repeatedly, and so on. And all this wrapped in a dank, yet colorful, cartoon coating.

And the ending... fuckin' what the hell.

I will never be able to look at cartoon animals ever again without remembering Fritz and his depraved antics.

Some people just don't seem to like it much when the woes of society get pushed under their nose and end up stinking to high heaven.

I don't get it. What's the reference? Is that form the movie or something? It seems like it, but I don't remember hearing it.

My favorite quote: "HEY HEY! Get out of here, we're seekin' after the truth!"

Not a reference. A remark that society really is full of nasty people and ideas that are more widespread than most people are comfortable with accepting. To refine that down to a smaller sentence: People suck. Sadly, if someone tries to parody that or subtly point it out, generally people will either get the wrong idea or be horribly offended.

Take, for example, Anonymous. "We are void of human restraints, such as pity and mercy... All have the potential to be Anonymous until they choose not to..." "We're what you, deep down inside, wish you could be when your wife cheats on you, when your son hates you, when your daughter leaves you, when the waiter spills wine on you, when your boss ridicules you."

All humans have that dark little voice down inside of them that says things that society deems unacceptable. The "id", as Freud named it. Some people choose to deny its existance, and that is why they react so strongly when society's flaws are pointed out.

Red face Re: Heavy Traffic

If you think heavy traffic is racist Coonskin is worse.

Bakshi also did might mouse cartoons on CBS A episode got banned for suggesting that mighty mouse was snorting cocaine.

John K (Ren and Stimpy) worked on that series and has considered him a mentor.

Coonskin depicts Italians at least as badly as it does blacks.
