Gurren Lagann US Premiere July 28th!
Don't miss it. Or you'll get pierced in the heavens by a drill. And then have Yoko blast you into smithereens. And then have Kamina . . . um, do something to your ashes, I dunno what. XD
Why the hell Adult Swim passed this up, I don't know, but Sci-Fi Channel has this one. It'll be airing at 11:00 EST. Sci-Fi's doing double premieres, so the 2nd episode immediately follows at 11:30. From the looks of it, it'll stay that way until GL finishes its run. The icing on the cake is Now And Then, Here And There at 12:00, with its 2nd episode at 12:30. This one's a classic, and quite possibly the finest New York dub ever. Just giving you guys a heads-up on it. GL deserves ratings. |

Jake is simply angry since he doesn't understand HOT BLOOD, GUTS, AND DRILLS.

I have DVDs from Netflix. No reason to watch it on T.V. with a million commercials and an English language track. I gave up originally after 2 episodes, but maybe this time I'll like it better..

I would have highly preferred if they aired it subbed, considering the clips I heard of the dub are none-too-pleasing. Oh good god, Nia, what did they do to your voice. ><

Doesn't mean I don't hate when people piss and moan about dubbed versions though.

Usually I wouldn't whine about dubs, but Bandai has proven time and time again that they produce some of the worst dubs in the English language of any anime company. Ever most children's anime get better dub treatment.

Re: Gurren Lagann US Premiere July 28th!
Actually, the version airing on Sci-Fi will be dubbed IIRC.
I think Hynden Walch (yes, the girl who voiced Starfire) will make a good Nia, though I admittedly haven't heard Walch as Nia yet (I wasn't at the GL screening). I'm expecting something along the lines of her Amy from IGPX, something girlish, kind, and soft without sounding too weak. Bandai doesn't actually dub anime, they contract it out to independent studios in NY, LA, and Canada. This one's gonna be an LA dub. So any dub problems should be blamed on the studio, not Bandai. The ADV dub will never see the light of day, fortunately or unfortunately. In any case, Bandai dubs usually don't suck. In fact, Cowboy Bebop should be watched dubbed rather than subbed IMO. |

Found the Bandai trailer . . .
http://revver.com/video/1065454/gurr...entertainment/ Brace yourself for Kamina, he sounds nothing like the Japanese VA. At the same time, I don't think its possible for an American to sound like the Japanese VA without sounding ridiculous. I think Kyle Hebert (Kamina's new VA) makes Kamina more grounded and more like someone you can easily identify with, which isn't a bad thing. Plus, he did pull off "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!" quite nicely. |

Anyway. I've heard great things about GL. Like how it's an insparation. Makes you cry, and it's the best damn thing ever. To me, I'm going to see if what they say is true, or they're just overeactive fans. |
