I hate to say it but the 1989 film, although a little more cartoonish and less dark than the new one, was tighter and Nicholson's Joker was more fun.

"This town needs an enema" vs "why so serious."

Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

Top 3 favorite quotes from both Jokers.
Nicholson:
1. "Tell me something, my friend. Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
2. "Can it truly be said that I have a bat, in my belfry?"
3. "I now do what other people only dream. I make art until someone dies. See? I am the world's first fully functioning homicidal artist.

Ledger:
1. "How 'bout a magic trick?" (favorite scene )
2. "I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve"
3. "I believe…whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you…stranger."

Yep. I like the third line for the new file, but I think the older film has much better and more quotable lines for the Joker. Again, it was slightly sillier (but a great improvement on the old 60's Batman), but it didn't drag on, and the writing was funnier.

Advantage: 1989 Batman.

IMHO.

Cool Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

Ok let me get this off my chest right now so it's all on the up and up.
I've seen Dark Knight 3 times so far this summer. It was an honor I had so far only given to IronMan and W*ALL-E (I love that little bot) up till that point.

ok so heres just a little oppinion based of what I've seen

You can not compare Jokers. . .period
To compair Ledger to Nickelson would be like compairing Nickleson to Romaro. To each there own Joker. Personal I think the best person EVER to play Joker is Mark Hamil (Batman:TAS, and Batman Beyond, And Justice League) He had about him an air of a man who was genuinly funny but at a momets notice could remind you that he is a complet PSYCO. Ledger did a good job of makeing a realistic version of this Joker. At times he was quite funny ("I just want my phone call") and at times he was truly loony toons ("I want you to HIT ME!!") so as far as me, I like Ledger over Nickelson (Who was quite good don't get me wrong, but he was not the Joker I identfy with when I think of the Joker) The movie itself was quite good, it didn't drag and it didn't slow down. The acting was top notch and the directing left be speechless on several occations. All in all it was a good movie. . .Oscer worthy? well we'll see now won't we.

As to Comic Books in general
well by basic definition Comics are geared towrds younger kids however it would seem that many wrighters are understanding that kids "aint stupid no more" and can handle larger and more complex stories and more dramatic and adult plots. This insures that not only can they maintain there fan base of folks who grew up (and have thus grown up) with the comic and have matured but also those fresh to the world. I compair it to "Super Sentai" (the japanese show on which "Power Rangers" is loosley based) Knowing that many of the folks sitting down on saturday morning watching the newist Sentai with their kids are the former kids who where watching it in the 70's and 80's (yes it's been around 30 years) they have made a show enjoyable to kids but one that parents can get a kick out of as well.

Batman the animated series was a GROUNDBREAKING show. To this day I still get a lump in my throte seeing episodes like "My Silicone Soul" and that I think is do to a more mature wrighting style (hell it won Emmy's for cris'sake) that kind of staying power is something animation today lacks badly. Alto I am a fan of "The Batman" and "Teen Titans" I don't own the dvd's as I do not see myself remaining a diehard fan of these shows into my later years.

As to other Comic Book movies. well thears the good, Spider-Man 1/2, X-Men 1/2, Incredable Hulk, IronMan, Punisher, V for Vendeta, Batman Begins)

The OK, Fantastic Four 1/2, Ghost Rider, DareDevil [DIRCTORS CUT ONLY], Superman 1/2, Blade 1 and 3

And The Crap, Catwoman, Superman 3-Returns, X-Men 3, SPIDER-MAN 3 (nearly unwatchable) Electra (even knowing that theres a Girl/Girl kiss later in the movie I've never been able to watch it long enought to get to it) Blade 2, Hulk

but these are just my oppinions take them as you will
DekaPrime

(please pardon my spelling and grammer it is quite late and at the moment I'm haveing trouble seeing clearly)

I was about to bring him up. Mark played an excellent Joker, especially the laugh. He is definitely part of the reason i love the animated series so much.

And you make another good point: each Joker is unique and the only way to compare them is through opinion, which one you happed to like best. They each fit the theme for their movie/show as needed.

And JBird, your sig is my favorite dialog from my favorite episode =D

thanks that was exactly what I was getting at.
as for the quote from JBird I do belive that comes from one of the better (if not in the top 10) episodes called "All most Got Him" which has one of my fav lines

"And then I hit him with a rock. . . . .it was a bog rock "

Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

oh and I forgot to mention that Batman:TAS did start out on weekday after noons (5:00 every weekday I had to get my homework done fast) and then moved to Saturdays with "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" it did have a VERY short lived life in prime time just before "Power Rangers" when they where trying some of there weekday shows on friday night to take on TGIF and the other friday night shows. The prime time episodes where all ones that had aired before but where some of the best ones of the run till that point if memory still serves.

I found this information why digging around some of my old VHS tapes and finding the first two episodes of MMPR season two in prime time with atleast one episode of Batman: TAS on before it (it may have been "On Leather Wings") However FOX was banking on MMPR makeing their prime time block rock and when it didn't they didn't even show the rest of the season opener for MMPR untill the summer a few months later. With no MMPR Batman was pulled off as well and placed back on weekday after noons, much to my delight as I had not gotten to stay up and watch them in prime time

Oh and the fact TAS used the best Batman theme ever for it's opening music certainly helped.

Re: I FUCKING HATE "The Dark Knight" FANBOYS!!!!

Now, Iwant to set the record straight:

I don't hate "The Dark Knight", the movie itself. I love it. It's not the greatest movie ever, or even the greatest comic book movie ever. It's just a very good movie. I enjoyed it a lot. Ledger is not the greatest Joker ever, but he is still a very good Joker (for what is worth, he is a better Joker than Kevin Michael Richardson). And there is no doubt in my mind that Aaron Eckhardt is the best live action Two Face.

So, I don't hate the movie itself. What I DO hate is the retarded fanboys/imdb users who think the Nolan movies are the prime source for the character, who over-rate and over-hype the movie to the point of ridiculness and who feel the need to spit on the hard work of Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson, Tim Burton and Richard Moll.

Richard Moll was the shit on Night Court.

I understand, dude. Just one thing I'd like to ask of you: please hold back on the caps ^_^;

Opinions on media are great. People are not. I remember when I watched The Incredible Hulk on opening day. Walking out, I overheard some guy talking to his friend. He was reminiscing about how in the first film, Hulk grew larger; while in the new film, Hulk stayed one size. I felt obligated to drop an elbow on this person, but I really had to go the bathroom at the time. I can go further in how different both films are, but that's for another thread, another time
