Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
His thing is that he hates everything, and it's still funny. Don't take it personal if he hates a game you like. He's hated most everything I've ever played.

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Actually, his thing is that he see's problems with the video game industry at large whereas most people involved with the forementioned industry will kiss the ground it walks on.
He also targets specific games in particular which have major flaws but those problems appear to be pushed aside by many critics or reviewers and are mainly regarded as the second coming of christ. While games that are actually entertaining spectacles, which are what games should be, are occasionaly thrown to the proverbial wolves. See painkiller and psychonauts for one. Also that Fantasy World Dizzy game is a joke, in the end he had to explain it in one of the episodes due to so much spam about it. |

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Painkiller is a great game because it is simple yet still changes just enough through the levels to be fun.
Also what i see from watching his stuff regularly is that he targets the bad points, because that his what most people just look over and that his pretty much what he goes for. A true review with no points system and lots of personal opinion though it still stays true to the game. |

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Watch his Bioshock review, the first statement he made is "if my Psychonauts review taught me anything, it's that nobody likes me when I'm being nice to a game."
Though they are called reviews, he calls himself a critic. I watch his reviews to get laughs, not to decide to play a game or not, and I bet most of his viewers know this....well, aside from SSBB fanbrats of course.

By the way, he also likes Saints Row 2, believe it or not. And I'm not suprised about the review he gave Fable 2. Me and my friends were all waiting for him to tear it apart.

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Yahtzee is usualy right.
J rpgs are basicaly books turned into videogames (still love them and ff7 will be what i read to my kids heh) Fable 2 is Fable 1 upgraded (i like fable one and i enjoy #2.) and saints row is about 3 times better then gta4 because of all the things he said. except he forgot to mention jonny gat who is funny as shit. if you dont like Yahtzee too bad he is still usualy right on the money when it comes to the feelings of gamers like myself. ill let you dacide what kind of gamer that is for your self.

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Yahtzee is doing what all the idiots in a game review magazine are supposed to be doing.
Criticizing. It's their job, yet the best they can manage to fork over is a "Well, the game is fantastic, but I did get a weird static shock one time on the same day I played it." Most game reviewers are so far into game producers pockets they don't bother to actually critique the game, they just praise it. Yahtzee, to me, just comes across as a man who feels that there needs to be more criticism and less syncophantic adoration coming across. I don't even bother reading the reviews in magazines like Game Informer or EGM, because they are all the same rubbish wrapped up in some sort of candy-coated blowjob to the game production companies. Because I think we all remember what happened with the game review website that had a reviewer post a negative review of Prey, and they had the advertisement for Prey all over the website. He got fired and they apologized.

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
His review of Devil May Cry 4 was spot on. I played it on a friends PC and got stuck in that part where you do timed jumps or else fall into a pit that spawns monsters that need extermination before your even allowed out to try the timed jumps again.
I quit after the 7th attempt and instead played CoD4. A game that Yahtzee actually liked (mostly). Now THAT game was freakin awesome.

Re: Zero Punctuation (just for laughs)
Eh, see the problem with Yahtzee's reviews is that he takes minor complications and blows them out of proportion and calls them game breaking. That said, he's funny as hell. If I want good reviews I go to PC gamer... they're usually spot on for me.

I'm not complaining, though. It is BE, and it does fit the topic. I was just curious if anyone thought there's a point when things just shouldn't be mentioned. On a note related to the video, the blattent and annoying advertising is bothering me. I particularly hated the Warhammer Online ads when the advertising was longer than the review. |
