The problem is, using this theory, one would have to know the person enough to reproduce the sounds that would cause the desired influences.

It would probably have a similar line to hypnosis, as well. Unless the sound were truly obnoxious enough (in which case it would only serve to drive you away), then anyone who could see the obfuscation or is particularly aggressed wouldn't be affected.

It's absolutely likely that anyone who understands the ring's concept and isn't compliant, or who isn't sympathetic to it at all, will be unaffected.
