Re: Be story club

It's entirely online.

No paper trail.

If you use a credit card/debit card, it just shows up as CCBill.com.

That's it.

Maybe when it's finished. After being burned FAR too badly and FAR too often by Dream Girl, I don't re-sub for anything until it's all the way finished.

Re: Be story club

Dream Girl really turned into the worst kind of debacle - which I like to think of as the "Evil That Men Do" scenario... where you have Kevin Smith fuck off for 2 years in the middle of a mini-series and then retcon a popular character with a patronising date rape backstory and rationalise the epic delay by saying that it was a "better story" because of said delay... but I digress...

Dream Girl was a badly delayed and then it comes out and a lot of people felt nauseated by the grossly misogynistic and exceptionally mean spirited (not that the story was particularly cheerful to begin with) continuation... Yeah, fair to say that was not the BESC's brightest hour... but then, at the same time - I never really got why people fixated so much on it. Beyond the obvious fact that it was a big comic with good art and some honkin' big growing boobs... If anyone can clarify the position it holds, I'd be interested to know why...

Prophet_Tenebrae: I'm willing to bet it was widely distributed on the piracy channels, convincing people to sign up for the club. Since it was one of the first comics the club produced, people felt attached to seeing it through, rationalizing that it was the reason they'd joined in the first place. This is speculation, of course, but I bet subscription rates jumped when it first came out.

BE Story Club essentially showed the first part of Dream Girl for free in order to attract people to the site, and it was the first comic per se for BE Story Club.

Re: Be story club

I dunno: I was very less then pleased to discover that it wasn't a comic by Johnnyswell but one of your stories, Gunny.

I'm very much NOT a fan of bait and switch, since the adverts at the main page more or less paint it as a BE comic site.

Then again, I'm the sworn enemy of BEA, so anything to do with them is more or less in deep shit with me to begin with.

Re: Be story club

#5 will be going live shortly.

I'm in for the long haul on Unstable Assets. Trust me when I say I'm going to end it if I can't continue, but the way I've scripted this out and the fact I'm limited to 10 pages per issue means that I'm probably going to have at least a dozen issues of story before I start to get to any type of situation where I need to end it. As an example, I was expecting to be on Issue #6 for a major milestone but so much ideas and material came up that I'm drawing the story out.

I'm not sure why you don't like Gunslinger's material (I found his stories quite enjoyable, and would love to see more about), but I can't see why you'd take an exception to the content if you joined for comics. It's basically produced nothing BUT comics all year - 1 text story in may, and 1 last november... the rest (3 every month) are comics....

This is one of the reasons *I'm* not a fan of the club at the moment - the lack of text stories. I would have thought it'd be ideal for comic lovers at the moment.

Re: Be story club

I'm sorry to spoil the mood, and I dislike having to do this, but I've had nothing but trouble from the BEstoryclub.

Joined, worked fine for about 2 days, then I've never been able to join again, navigating their free-pages for a worthwhile email address is awkward, and I think I've managed to screw myself over by making the horrendous mistake of giving my details over to someone through a 'customer care' email address on their site.

I was hoping it was legitimate, but unless whoever responded to me firstly was just looking for a free ride or something, then I've received no help after giving my details*. I'm getting tired of paying for a service I cannot use or get help for. I've tried the fixes suggested by this sites folks, and I was grateful for the assist, but if the BEstoryclub folks won't help me, I'm going to warn every person I see asking about it of what I've had to deal with.

Again, I'm sorry to smear the site, but people have to be warned if their hard earned cash is going to effectively be stolen with no service given in return.

*It's been going on 5 days now with not so much as a hint of assistance, I'm giving it 2 more then I'm seeking some way of killing the account, either through CCbill or my own bank service.

Re: Be story club

Yes, it's not the most intuitive service to cancel.

But still, it's as easy as filling out a damned form.

Had subscriptions to the BE Archive and BE Story club. Fill the form out with accurate information and you'll be all set.

Note on the reason you give: Don't be stupid and go off on a tangent. "No longer desire subscription" or "cutting costs." If you say "was difficult to use sign in," they could try to solve your problem to deflect a cancellation.
