were cousins and daughters of earlier non-transformation stories
because they had a plot and elements derived from the earlier
non-transformation tales
(eg Lambes transformation narrative "The laidley Worm o'
Spindleston Heughs(about 1768) borrowed lines from
the non transformation ballad The
Lambton Worm( lets say 1550)
and its possible Kempion (lets say 1550 again) borrowed stuff from the
hagiographies of St Margaret of Antioch and St Thaneu and her son
St Mungo(Kentigern)(maybe 1000)

So its not much of a leap to take the plot from a transformation narrative
such as (oh lets say) Morris's "Lady of the Land" poem(~1860) and turn it into
the non-transformative novel "Dragon's Keep" (2007) with its love cursed
young woman in a castle on a island.
What?

While I can't say it's normal (normal /d/. ha!), I can say you're not alone in doing this. I visit /d/ and gurochan's /f/ for laughs.

As far as plot goes, if this is just a one shot then nothing more than enough to set up the tf should be necessary. It might be nice to have some sort of resolution though; even if it's just a few paragraphs. I'd say 80% of the tf stories I've read end with 'and then she ran off into the night. The end.' Something else I haven't seen so often is where a tf is drawn out over multiple scenes instead of happening all at once. Maybe it has false starts and relapses, maybe it's a lenghy thing, whatever.

A good plot is what makes us remenber the story a few days later after we read it...

I remember good scenes more easily than good plot. With TF stories, I'll read the whole thing once, then go back time and again for the juicy bits, skipping the rest.

Re: What do you like in a transformation story?

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I must admit I'm surprised. Now I'm glad I asked. I didn't realize how important plot actually was. When the poll was first started it was by far the most popular choice. Sex and nudity caught up some since then, but it's still the clear winner.

I once saw a request for animal transformation during sex. I'm guessing that would be popular with quite a few people here. If there's anyone who'd like a story better if it didn't have sex now would be a good time to chime in.

TF-Viewer, what the heck is your avatar?

Re: What do you like in a transformation story?

I'll go ahead and admit that I'm here for the 'low-brow' variety--just plain sexual fetish. Now that isn't to say I haven't enjoyed the plot in some stories, but there are very many where the plot overshadows the sexuality. To many this is a good thing; for me, it really isn't. I read novels for excellent plots and come to the interwebs' fetish sites looking for porn.

I don't think either is right or wrong, really, but I thought I'd throw my two cents' in there. Rei-Lin's 'Moon Coin' story is an excellent example of the sort I like. It's clearly a fetish story, and I think the focus is on exploring interesting transformations and the like, but there's good writing and an overall plot tying it together.

TF-Viewer's avatar is an individual cursed to transform under certain stimuli into that cat.

Snowglare is right, although I do sometimes return to read the whole story over again. Closest example of this I can think of is the story Flexible Infection. The drawing the TF out over several pages makes it more satisfying than a two paragraph wham-bam-thank-you-mam. Again, as Snowglare pointed out, there are chapters that I visit more regularly than others
