Your room would look fairly messy to an outside observer, but the various flashy trinkets, souvenirs, and kick-nacks you've collected are all organized and categorized perfectly to you over several bookcases and your writing desk. The most prominent of these is a fiddle your uncle had given to you for a past birthday, but your talents, as far as you were concerned, were more in line with the literary world. You have a complete run of Sharia Talent's fantasy series The Deeper World, as well as some of her more "adult" novels stashed under your bed. It's so easy for you to imagine yourself as the protagonist of Talent's novels, venturing off to another world, free of the pressures of modern life, but that doesn't happen in the real world.

You got dressed for school and came downstairs to find your mother getting ready for work. It seemed your dad had already left.

"Good morning," she said as she rushed to get her affairs together, "We're going out after work so don't wait up for us."

The sound of the doorbell rang out.

"Oh that must be your friend...who was that again? I'm so forgetful in the morning..."
