TF Flash Game the Second
First, let me apologize for the end result of my first game. I don't think I will be finishing it. That game required a lot of work and Flash was just unforgiving in everything I tried to accomplish.
The idea for this game came about from several things I attempted along the way. Using Java games like the Blocks game and several other flash apps allowing you to utilize your own images, it was interesting to see a unique progression each time. No transformation would be the same twice. That's what I tried to re-create here, but with an actual game. It's part random and part choice. So what is it? It's a match game like Concentration or Tiles. It's that game when you put a deck of cards facedown and collect pairs. Each time you make a pair, you apply the change to the sprite and she reacts. Included in the Zip is the standard game and the cheap version that doesn't flip the cards back over once you see what's behind them. That cheap version is for custom-tailoring the progression yourself. The regular version is to be surprised. Ok, now that's the good news. Here's the bad news. I mentioned it before in the old thread, but I lack creativity. Despite the fact that I dislike a reaction from each change in pictures, I found that the game was far too boring without text. And that's where my problem is. I'm not a bad writer, but I'm a bad creative writer. So this is what I'm trying to say: If you like this game and can help in the following areas, please do. 1) Ideas for transformations. Not limited to animals. a) These ideas need to include the components of change. 12 is the maximum. b) Feel free to include habitual aspects of the subject, such as a dog's tail wagging. 2) Dialogue. a) The dialogue being written should be written 3x for all components. b) The three different dialogues should be tailored to the three mental states associated with the components. For the cat example here, the mental progression is such: scared, confused, indignant -> interested, excited -> happy, loving, "Master"-mode, etc. I have drawn a dog and a bunny, but I have not done the dialogue for them. I'm not completely satisfied with the dialogue I have for this example either, so I don't mind if someone wants to re-write it. It's up to you if you want to keep it in PMs so nobody sees the suggestions before they go live or if you keep the suggestions in this thread so others can bounce off of them. Ok, now play it and let me know how it is. Original sprites from AzuTama. Not mine. Copyright and all. These files are outdated. The most recent version of the game can be found here: http://www.process-productions.com/f...4&postcount=77 Last edited by monomonkey; 06-24-2009 at 06:15 AM. |

Re: TF Flash Game the Second
i might be a good idea to take the base you have from the other, and use that to make a few more versions. then while the lurkers are distract....i mean....while the old stuff is out of the way, you'd be free to create new ideas.
personally i think it might be a bit of a challenge to make it lengthy; but petrification, plant TF, other inanimate objects, or rarely done animals might be a good idea. I'd be more than willing to help in breaking down a TF into enough match cards if you'd like ^_^ almost forgot my animal suggestion......for some reason a frog might be interesting o.o' |

Re: TF Flash Game the Second
Thanks. I was hesitant to use the old ones, since this game would be very boring if I simply re-used the sprites I had made before. And when I realized that I was getting better at making them toward the end of the work I was doing on the first game, I figured I should go back and re-draw them. I'm glad I did.
I was trying to find another sprite of just a girl looking straight forward but apparently that's impossibly rare these days. Most of these sprites are small and would not serve well when it came to small details. The other sprites from the game this one came from don't really lend themselves to editing. Quote:
With any suggestion for #1, I'm going to need a and b filled out too. I haven't drawn a frog yet before and it sounds interesting, but I'm going to need a list of parts and a list of quirks. Quote:
The good thing about posting this in a community board is that these ideas can be bounced around for quite some time, too. So if several people want to see a cow, some those several people can also work around what parts to include on the cards and the quirks to have animated, and the others can work on the dialogue. This is the kind of game I can do alone but would rather handle in a community setting. Quote:
--- I have some PMs I am going to reply directly to, but I guess I'll re-iterate this. The dialogue is based on the three mental states. In the cat game, she begins with being annoyed and irritated by the changes. When you pair a mental change card, she feels something change, but doesn't really understand it. Suddenly all of the changes seem like fun to her, and she's excited to see what's next. When you pair another mental change card, she "remembers" that she is your pet cat. All of her new dialogue lines are tailored for this. Since this is completely dependent on when the player chooses these two mental cards, it is possible that the entire game is played while in one mental state. If you get one mental state pair right away and then miss out on the second one until the very last pair, she will be in the 2nd mental state for the entire game. If you miss out on all of the mental state cards the entire game, she will be scared / annoyed the entire game. If you get both of them right away, she will be a happy pet cat the entire game. The experience is really up to the player in this regard. So, that's what the dialogue is. It's based on having three sets of emotions tied to the current change. However, I branched out a bit with the cat stage and have a bit more planned for the dog stage. If you get the stripes before you get the fur in the cat stage, she will comment on how it doesn't look right yet. If you get the stripes after you get the fur, she will comment on how she looks completed. These unique dialogue sequences can also be planned out by the person/group of people writing them. As it is, the basic requirement for each one is 36 lines of dialogue. Pretty simple, really. Card 1: mental state 1 reaction Card 1: mental state 2 reaction Card 1: mental state 3 reaction ... Card 12: mental state 1 reaction Card 12: mental state 2 reaction Card 12: mental state 3 reaction Though the mental cards themselves in the cat stage give the same reaction regardless of the order you pick them and only have two lines each, so it's more like 32 lines of dialogue. |

Re: TF Flash Game the Second
The games themselves don't open?
You need to unzip them first (windows XP and newer have this automatically). Then each zip file should have two .swf files. These are Flash files. You need a Flash Player to play them, though you can try opening them in Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever you use to browse the Internet if you're capable of seeing videos on YouTube or playing other Flash Games, since they all use the same program. |
