Re: Cops are assholes to me!

Wonder about the truck though, if it was indeed a police vehicle, how exactly would the OP know that? I mean...don't they have to be marked as such? I mean, if you thought someone was watching you, you'd get suspicious too wouldn't you? I mean, it's understandable if say, the OP changed route if it had been a police vehicle in the first place that stopped to observe, but otherwise it seems, as Genderhazard noted it's just a case of it being early hours: Be suspicious of everything. There's nothing wrong with being safe is there?

As for the actual encounter with the Officer, though it pains me to agree. If you can't stay polite stay silent. Comply. Answer questions quickly and as succinctly as you can. If this is not an officer you know from the area, don't try and engage in small talk, especially if you feel it can be misconstrued.

Not really...

Is that true? Huh. I would have thought it'd be the other way round. Thieves are more likely to get an opportunity to steal something when people are out and about, rather than when they're almost all indoors. As well as muggings etc, simply grabbing unattended items from lawns or garages would be much easier than breaking in. Plus, during the day most people are out doing stuff- working, studying, socialising, etc. So the household isn't likely to be there. Also, anyone noticing the criminal breaking in would be more likely to assume they're not doing so because they're doing it in broad daylight. They're far more likely to assume that they're the homeowners (if the neighbourhood isn't too close-knit) or employed by them.

In the example given here, a stolen bicycle, when would it be easier to steal it- at night when it's in someone's house/shed/garden, securely locked or tied away, or during the daytime when the owner is more likely to either be using it and leaving it unattended for short periods of time (maybe visiting a friend, popping down the shops, delivering newspapers, etc), leaving it more accessible (EG if they keep it in a garage, said garage may be left open while they do something else) or at least be a long way away instead of possibly in the same building and suspicious of the noises downstairs?

Re: Cops are assholes to me!

I got stopped by some cops once at Leeds station. They wanted to know why I had a sword in my backpack.

I'm a Brit, mate. Cops aren't armed (With firearms anyway. usually.). Besides, aren't they supposed to point their weapons at you and tell you to stop before they shoot?

Generally, yes. On the other hand, they can draw and shoot you without warning if there is clear and present danger. Like a sword.

Which is how cops in Houston got issued tasers. So they have a non-lethal option. Of course, some people (Generally high or drunk) don't stay down when tasered and get zapped into cardiac arrest.

They gave cops here tasers too....

Damn redneck law enforcement has already killed someone with them.

It's like giving a monkey a hammer, even with proper training their still dangerous.
