Rip the DVD...
You know that this is illegal. And that people could get Lorekeeps ass only for the fact that you moron posted this announcement of an illegal act on his forum. Just a hint, turn your brain on before considering to use the keyboard.

Wolfman.. where do you think most of the clips you download here come from? Either they're ripped out of a DVD and posted, or captured from a DVD player with a video capture card. Two methods that serve the same purpose, neither one is more illegal than the other.

Posting a whole movie in a torrent, THAT is illegal. Posting a clip from a DVD is not. Otherwise we'd have to shutdown the whole site because of all the clips from DVDs and comic pages and such that have been posted here. Or shut down youtube.com for the same thing, or google, or any other site out there for that matter that has any clips or pictures of any kind other than original works or works posted with express permission from the creator.

So don't go telling other people to "turn their brains on" until you do the same.

BUT... Nobody said that these clips where ripped. So we can say that we didn?t knew where its from (we know of course). But se can still say we?re innocent by not saying certain things aloud. See the difference? Or do you have to turn that excuse for an brain of yours on?

Well, it may be possible under Australian law if you are doing it for research or study:

You may copy a video or DVD for your research or study, provided the use is fair. When working out whether the use is fair, the things you need to consider include:

? how much of the video or DVD you want to copy; and
? whether you can buy a copy of the video or DVD (if you can, copying it may not be fair);
In one case, the Court considered the meaning of the words ?research? and ?study? and held that they have the meanings given in the Macquarie Dictionary:

research??diligent and systematic enquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover facts or principles?.

study??1. application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge, as by reading, investigation or reflection. 2. the cultivation of a particular branch of learning, science, or art: The study of law 3. a particular course of effort to acquire knowledge: to pursue special medical studies ...5. a thorough
examination and analysis of a particular subject ...?

An example of fair dealing for research or study would be a student making a compilation of excerpts from movies as part of an assignment to show examples of non-verbal communication.

So, if you really want to, I guess you could claim that this is an educational website, although it may be a long shot.

Ripping music or videos isn't illegal the last time I checked. However, making copies of music or videos and redistributeing them is. That however only applies to whole videos I think. Copying a movie to your computer and cutting a 30 second clip out and posting it on the net is not something that'd get anyone in trouble. If it was, all the yahoo groups, youtube files, and sites like this with clips on them would be shut down already.

Lorekeep doesn't allow torrents here, for good reason. But clips, no matter where they come from, are just clips. Ripped or captured, they're only clips.

guys, according to the profs on my degree, ripping is ok for university refs, as long as its all cited, you know as a secondary (some one else made this), and as for the backing up of data (dvd's) its fine as long as you 1. own the original, and 2. dont distro.....

as for bits and chopped up clips, we wouldn't have any postings anywere, as tf-viewer said the core of stuff is all out there, everyware.

if you like what you see, try buy a *real* copy, and give some credit to the teams that produce the anims..

Actually, and this applies more to software and games, it depends on the EULA (End User License Agreement). Some allow you to create a copy for the purpose of backup/archival of the material, per the rulings from the 80s. Some expressly forbid it.

However, the terms of those EULAs could be contested.

In the case of DVDs, if you have to circumvent copy protection (which most of the time you will) then it's a violation of the DMCA. Backups/rips are reaaally up in the air and hard to keep track of.
