Re: Go see Avatar

Saw it, loved it. If you see it, see it in 3D. It's so much better than previous 3D movie attempts (cept maybe Pixar's Up) But if your only comparison is stuff like Journey to the center of the earth then you're missing out.

Yea, the story aint original, boo hoo, almost nothing is. It's all about execution and James Cameron knows how to deliver. This is one of those movies you WILL kick yourself in the ass for not seeing in the theater, in 3D, as intended.

As for the "USB" cables. It seems a lil silly at first but once you comprehend what Ehwa really is it kinda makes sense for most of the lifeforms on the planet to evolve in that way. It really telegraphs the ending but I didn't care, was too emotionally invested in the characters.

I must admit seeing the guy with the flamethrower made me want to play Starcraft. I think the terran marines from Starcraft area bit more advanced than the humans of Avatar. But I can sure see them repelling a zerg rush quite nicely with those giant robots and space marines. There's a huge starcraft / james cameron crossover, the shuttle pilot from starcraft is a complete rip off of the pilot from Aliens, complete with several lines of dialog being ripped off word for word. So I can sure see why you'd make that connection.

I don't know about alternate endings but apparently there was a lot of footage shot that didn't make it into the final movie. At one point it was 45 minutes longer even without the big ending. Some day there will be a directors cut.

I just got back from seeing it again and now I have my mind all full of giant robots and kitty people. I also like the colonel character, he's such a bad ass. I like how his priorities are: get into giant robot first and worry about being on fire second..

So, if you haven't seen it yet, go see it. Did you see it yet?

actualy, on earth, the humans have kinetic energy weapons, and the like, in other words, the humans have gauss and rail guns, the RDA troops use old weapons, because it's cheaper

Re: Go see Avatar

I'm fairly certain James Cameron had the idea for the hallelujah mountains long before WOW, he's been working on avatar for a long time

It's pretty and visually exciting. Very well executed. Don't expect a moving or thoughtful story though.
