Final Fantasy XIII
Yes, I got it on the Midnight Launch Party. I've been playing until my eyes bleed and I can say that it is worth every drop of blood.
I've been playing the "inferior" 360 version and I can say that all the claims of horribly degraded quality have been exaggerated. The games looks great on the 360. It's not Blu-ray, but it's still great quality. Does it make my head asplode with awesome as prophesied by fans for the last three years? Of course not, but it's definitely worth the money I've spent. The combat is a little clumsy and a bit frustrating at first, but by the time Paradigms are introduces, you will have a good grasp of the basics, jsut in time to learn the real meat of the battle system. The sound ranges from slightly annoying to lovely in terms of the various BGM scores, and the voice acting is better than the trailers made it look. That's not to say that some of the random quips don't get a bit old. If I have to hear Sazh complain that hes' "to old for this" jsut a few more times, I may let him just die in battle for a while. The visuals, as I mentioned earlier, are indeed spectacular. THE ingame graphics truly rival the cinematic cutscenes, with very little noticeable difference. Added to all of this is something VIII fans may recognize... The Datalog is comparable to the Information section of the Tutorial Sub-Menu in FFVIII. IT allows you to access info on various Histories and Myths, Locales, even the events leading up to hte game itself. There is even an Enemy Info section that works as an ingame beastary. On top of this is the Events section, which has the written summary of jsut about everything witnessed from the very beginning of the game till now. It can be used latter in the game to skim over a plot point you may have missed earlier and get caught up. It's also handy for jumping back into hte story if you were to leave the game for awhile. Now I will give a small word abotu the Crystarium. IT is basically the next natural evolution of FFX's Sphere Grid. While this may annoy some, others will enjoy the level of customization allowed to players. Each character can build down various grids based on what Role they play, allowing you to build one character as a Ravager, while bringing another down the road of Medic. Now, while this may seem a bit constraining, you can build on each role independently OR you can invest CP into various roles at once. This means that you can have a character major in as a damage dealer, with the ability to fall back into a healing role should the need arise, unlike the FFX Sphere Grid which set you down a single Job Class per character.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
So far I don't like it. Just playing one character and letting the rest of the party do whatever they like.. I'm not digging it. Unless that changes after a while I really don't think I'll finish this game.
And that's just my gripe about combat. The rest of the game so far for me has been running down a path, fighting some guys, having my health fully restored after the fight so the next fight is just as easy as the first one, watching a cutscene, playing as one of the characters for a few seconds when it could be a cutscene instead..... and annoying voice acting from pink haired girl (grr hate @ her). |

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
I'm hoping to get a PS3 soon, as a birthday gift from my dad. If it never happens, then I'll just get the 360 version. Either way, I want to play it. Which is odd, because after XII, I had a falling out with Final Fantasy games altogether.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
XII to me was like WoW without human interaction. Marks worked like menial quests, and other than that you were running from one side of the map to hte other.
XIII has a better feel to me, adn it's more story oriented. I don't mind the one-character battles, seeing as it allows the game's combat to move at paces that would just be unreal with 3 people to control. More than anything, the combat system is about being a General and commanding troops. You get to tell them how to move, but they each have hte chance to decide what to do given the order. And yes, Vanille is more annoying than X-2 Rikku

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
I hate that they went back to 'when the main toon drops it's game over'. That was something I loved in FF XII,was that I could swap out a member or actually RAISE THEM instead of having to start freaking over.

The way I hear it if you hated 12 you'll probably like 13, and if you liked 12 you'll probably hate 13.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
You want the PS3 version. The game was made for the PS3. The degrade is quality is significant. There are no reasons to get it on the 360 over the PS3.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
It's not that I hated XII, its just that I never really got into it. Only played up until the first judge, who proceeded to use my party to floss out his teeth. And it was a pretty darn good looking game for the PS2, at the time. I almost feel bad for not wanting to continue playing it with the same vigor as VII through X.

Re: Final Fantasy XIII
THe degrade in quality is not THAT horrible as people are making it out to be. I have hte 360 version and it still looks beautiful. But yeah, Kap, if you already have a PS3, go with the PS3 version ^_^
