To All Artist out there!!

I have just started about a few days ago learning how to draw anime and I have bought books on how to draw anime girls. But I have some problems on the head like the different angles of the head and the mouths and just all around making the girl look like an anime. I know it will take me a wail to get good at it, so here is a question:
How long have some of you guys been drawing for and how long did it take you to get good at it?

ive been drawing since i was 13 nya, i started with pokemon....
i think i started drawing girls alot was when i was 16 or 17......

now im 20 ( 21 on december 11, yay drinking age ^_^)

also i think this should be in the general discussion area

I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil but not started seriously since last year in which I started to try to improve my art. With great results.

I think I drew my first 3d cube when I was like five. My parents were shocked. ^^

I've been drawing ever since the age of 5...my first successful drawing being Bambi's mother. I started going into figure drawings around the age of 11 and even made my own comic (which was a BIG ripoff of Dragonball Z). My High School Art classes were a big help, and so far my College Art classes are making things better.

So, after 14 years of drawing I'm still improving, ^_^.

I have an idea which books you purchased and I would highly recommend reading Andrew Loomis' presentation on drawing techniques, I never found too much time to read all of it yet but some of the information on how to easily do angle shots of caricaturized characters probably will help when you try to do anime-style since anime is like a step-up from the typical super-deformed characters.

Anyway, two things I notice from artists that I respect.

#1: Always be critical of yourself and your faults.
If you can't take criticism, there is no way you can improve. If you can't look at your own faults and instead use rationalisation and delusion by trying to demonise the haters, then there isn't much hope.

#2: Keep on drawing the same object.
I have characters I drew for a long time and the evolution toward the process of how I can make them look becomes much more refined the more I draw them. The characters originally used bean-bag dolls for models. Also, if you look at any person's work, the earliest versions are usually different from the later ones because of refinement (Inconsistency doesn't count). n_n;

I'm not an artist so I probably don't know anything (This is what someone told me because I didn't understand some nonsense jargon). Anyway, check out Andrew Loomis, I thought some of the things in them were interesting to me at least.

I started comics since I was 8.
No special schoolin' for me, I just picked up info that caught my interest. Then practiced the shit out of it!

As far as being good, shi'it, I ain't at my peek yet.
I can't consider myself bein' "good". I still have a long road ahead of me, through the path to ROCKING.

Now if you mean getting to the point of being "comfortable"
with drawing, I would say it took me 'bout 3 hours.

Invest about 3 hours every day you decide to draw stuff.
Fill those scrap pages full 'o junk. It helps to come up with a character(s) you like; use drawing as a cure for boredom.

Never feel defeated, just keep in mind that if other "human beings" can make bad-ass anime, then you're really not too different from them.
Shoot for extremely difficult goals, out-do the teacher.
If you put a lot of effort for the difficult tasks, you'll always be able to handle the normal ones.

(I'm ranting on too much, but before I shut myself up, here's a helpful hint.)

When you practice, don't erase, re-draw your work.
You'll be able to see your unwanted habits, compare, and notice your slight improvements. (COMPLETELY fill that scrap page with junk!)

When you draw for real, shi'it, you can erase as much as you fuckin' want.

Take a look at the tutorials in my website. It's not fully complete yet, but the stuff that I got there can get you several drawing angles.

I've been drawing since I was in diapers.
And I only got good around my mid-teens.
Uh...
Maybe around sixteen or something.

Yeah, everybody doodles. I have as far as I can remember, mostly sci-fi stuff tho, Transformers, cyborgs (stuff that doesn't draw too much attention during class, I mean).
I've been posting anime-ish drawings rather recently too, and I'm just as inexperieced. So if you get anything usefull, let me know.
Personally, I wouldn't buy the books. All you really need is an understanding of the skeletal framework of what you are drawing, from there its just mimickry of stuff you appreciate and like.
If you like big boobs (and I KNOW we all here do) then just learn to mimick the stuff you like.
Part of that learnin' curve.

Also, a lightboard REALLY helps with making a final drawing after you draw a rough with pencil and figured out what you like. Here's my amateur lightboard.

I was about 7 when I began drawing, but never did it enough to improve myself till I was about 13. But durring those six years I almost always drew the same thing (Different poses and angles most of the time though) and now that character is one of the easiest characters for me to draw. With the exception of a couple of "How to Draw Manga" books and one college level drawing from observation class, all I ever learned of drawing came from practice, patience, and presentation. Draw your best and show everyone you know who can help critique it. Most of us here can help you along the way. So just do it your own way and enjoy the time. FIgure what works best for you through experimentation, trial and error and so forth.

I was 5 as i start to draw. After a accident in my early 20es i can't hold a pen for long time. Since this time i draw on my Computer. I am now 29.
