Sorry, but I was trying to use some sarcasm... didn't work as I have intended. Yes, maybe I am a dick, but just enough to distinguish when and how the people is speaking about something. Look, the rules are there for a reason. TF-Viewer wasn't even slightly rude, and in fact I didn't see any outright rude comment from anyone until yours, CNash. It's nice if you like this stuff, but it doesn't belong in this section of the forums and they were not wrong to point it out.

Honestly, I don't understand the whole mentality that makes it okay to simply ignore the rules because you like what you see, particularly on a sectioned site. If I had to guess, I'd think it's a holdover that never should've survived when people stopped telling other people "don't post that shit on this site."

What I object to is the backseat moderating that doesn't add anything worthwhile to a thread and is completely unnecessary - and certain people do it more than most. Now, I can't remember if we actually have any moderators apart from the admin, Lorekeep, but in all other forums I've used, decisions on whether topics are in the wrong place are left to the staff.

Ipso facto, Lorekeep has mentioned on several occasions - in fewer words - that he doesn't believe that such actions are an efficient use of his time. I'd pull up references, but I imagine that'd be a HUGE slap-in-the-face to someone who's actively been here three years LONGER than I have. You should know his stance by now.

Did you know that I lurked these forums for half a decade before deciding to contribute? Now, I'm sure you'd like me to shut up ( ), but the fact remains that we don't have a formal moderation presence precisely because of self-policing efforts by people like TF-Viewer. I don't know if you remember the forums when they first started out, but the initial decision to have a formal moderation staff turned out to be a poor one, which resulted in the discouragement of potentially contributing members.

Honestly, I question the very notion that an established moderation team can do any better at keeping the forums properly organized - without letting their own biases intervene - than the proper reinforcement by community members.

Sigh. There really WASN'T a large need for this discussion here and now, either. Why someone can't (and here, I'm as guilty of this as the next guy) just say "I don't much care for your attitude" and crosslink to F&BS (though PMS is probably the best pseudonym I've seen in a while ) is - quite frankly - beyond me.
