This. Right here. Just give us the damn CK and quit dicking around with Steam bullshit that LITERALLY no one cares about. Skyrim is a single-player game. If we wanted a gaming experience to have anything to with the online world or other people, then we would have bought an MMO. :rants:

I found a program, SkyEdit, but it looks like it can't modify NPCs for now, just weapons and spells.
Ah. Makes sense.

So, wait, do you hate TESNexus/SkyrimNexus too? Because that's basically what they're using Steam Workshop for. Only, unlike Nexus, it probably won't be a huge hugbox. And because of that, I'm actually optimistic about that, so don't make sweeping statements like "LITERALLY NOBODY CARES".

Granted, it also probably won't have boobs, which might sting for anyone reading this post, but I'd say that the number of people playing Skyrim for fap material is in a very small minority. Good thing for us that it's not the only channel to distribute mods, then.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm pretty skeptical of the Steam Workshop not because of the social aspect (which I'm fine with) but because I'm uncomfortable handing the reins for this sort of thing to Valve or even Bethesda for that matter. They're saying it's "optional" now but that kind of thing is just bureaucratic reassurance for measures that will be "mandatory" later.

Case in point, when Nexus got rid of the downvotes, turning the site into the gooey "hugbox" it is today. These kind of measures are implemented as "optional" features.

I think you're a little confused as to how mods work. Or what they mean by "optional."

Mods are edited files that are loaded into the game, developed by nerds with too much free time like us. When the mod is completed, the finished product is uploaded to a site (Nexus, Steam Workshop, Process forums, some shady FTP server) at which point everyone downloads it and loads it. Steam Workshop is "optional" in that it's just another method of distribution. It opening won't affect the process at all (except Nexus getting ruffled a bit for having a new source of competition). Grocery Store X opening doesn't affect your current shopping habits of going to Grocery Store Y, nor does either affect how the food is grown/created at all. And if you don't like it, you can grow your own...

There's no way they can make anything "mandatory", short of changing the game/engine itself. Which I seriously doubt they're going to do at this point.

EDIT: This is getting a bit off topic, so if anyone wants to continue this feel free to PM me or whatever.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I think Bethesda fans are all a bunch of whiners. The Ck will come when it comes, Steam workshop is fine, get over yourselves. Making mods more accessible to the average gamer is a good thing. My friend just bought Morrowind on Steam and he was so put off by the process and work required to mod it, that he didn't even play it.
If we make the whole thing more accessible, this may be less likely to happen. Regarding the time its taking to get the CK, relax. Any other developer wouldn't even give you one nowadays.

It also doesn't help that steam has a tiny habit of breaking mods, unless of course it's a valve game. Then you perfectly safe.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Checking in again guys.

Today I rolled up my sleeves and set to work on a giantess mod for Skyrim, and the results are awesome, in my humble opinion. The spell is a targeted, channeled alteration spell - so as long as you are casting it, the target will grow continously. What's more, it can be cast on companions and neutral NPCs with no penalty; neutrals should not go hostile. You can find the tome on the floor in front of the bed of Anise's Cabin near Riverwood.

It has one limitation: it's designed to only work with the default playable races. Papyrus handles SetScale rather stupidly, so I had to tinker with the scripts and effects for a while to get it so that first, NPCs wouldn't grow exponentially (and hit the scale cap too quickly) and work around the difference in race scales. It's consistent for all the playable races, but won't work with custom races, though it wouldn't be too challenging to add custom races.

What's more, I did all the scripting so I can freely distribute the source, so anyone interested in working on it and distributing it themselves may. In fact I rather hope someone uploads it to the Nexus or Workshop, as I've had administrative troubles with the former and don't want to reveal my identity on the latter.

Wow, that's actually pretty cool. I enjoyed screwing around with the 50-foot woman mods for Fallout. I'd imagine this'll be fun as well.

Is there a shrinking version?

Really, I'd love to do this, but the way Skyrim works it's infeasible. The first person "camera" (i.e. your eye-level in-game) updates correctly for scales below 1.0, but for scales above it, does not. So it wouldn't be terribly practical, aside from being an ability you activate and then forces you into third person for the duration of the effect, as third person cameras do update properly, but third person isn't terribly effective for most things.

You know, seeing as the self-cast spells aren't working out, I could take a stab at it. Making this work in reverse also shouldn't be too tough, either.
